Purchased a couple Proto 3/8 ratchets from Zoro and wanted to add an SK (my first one). I picked the 45170. Is that a pretty decent ratchet? Tbh I don’t know too much about SK except for a little I’ve read on here

That's pretty much the standard that round head ratchets are judged against. I have two, and if it weren't for my more recent LP90's would be my go to's.

I have at least four of them maybe five, nothing fancy but the damn things just plain work.

Your basic roundhead ratchet. They seem to be a love 'em or hate 'em kind of thing. I have several variations and use them often.

I love the things.... even though there's objectively much better ratchets on the market. Crazy to think the patent for those is almost 100 year old.

Count me in, too. I have two, an S-K and an older S-K Wayne. The older one has very little backdrag and very smooth. Neither one has ever skipped on me. As Rinspeed said, they just plain work.

I have a few. There’s certain jobs I grab them for where I don’t need the fine tooth dual 80 that are my preferred ratchet. Especially anytime it’s going to be in dirt or getting lots of fluid or oil all over it. Easy to take a part and clean.

I agree. They have pretty much been making the same ratchet since the 30's or 40's or whatever, a long time anyway. I have a hand full of them myself. My favorite one is an old Mac X3R, which was made by SK, not the most ergonomic with the "beavertail" handle, but it has the most buttery smooth mechanism I have ever used.

Love mine. Use it more than anything else, including the SOs that sit next to it.
