SK appetite on a Tekton budget

I've been looking at stubby combination wrench sets (fractional) to round out my wrench drawer. I buy mostly SK tools but retirement has caused me to look other places. I like the seven piece SK and Circle C hits right at my budget limit of $70.00. Just my luck......out of stock and nobody else sells that low.

Tekton has an eight piece for about half that price and Sunex gives you either ten or eleven wrenches just a bit cheaper than the Tektons. I'm leery of Sunex so they are just about eliminated. If I hold out, maybe the SK's will be back in stock.

I really prefer the domestic SK but I'm an impatient person.

If you are not in a rush to purchase, I would wait until after Christmas. There always seems to be sales going on and you might find the right price elsewhere.

Also: can't the other place issue you a rain check, or let you pay now and ship when they are back in stock?

I would stick with SK, if you aren't needing them immediately.

I just got my tekton stubby both sae and metric in yesterday. I am very suprised by their quality and chrome. Have not had the chance to use them but I think they will work just fine for me. I also like to buy USA made tools but for the price its hard to justify anything else right now.

I received a 3/8 Stubby Rachet a couple of weeks back, incredibly quality and finish. I have also had a chance to use it and love it. They offer free shipping and ten percent back in credit. I will be ordering more.

I find Sunex’s wrenches to be pretty good stuff. Tekton is decent too.

I lucked into a set of Metric (to 20mm) and standard (to 15/16) Craftsman professional stubbies, the last of the US made ones, for $50 when Sears was closing them out

Stubby wrenches are one of those things that you can cheap out on because they generally do not get beat on that hard. I just go with whichever brand had the better selection of sizes. In my case that's Tekton for metric and Canadian Tire Mastercraft for SAE.

Wow I just looked around because I have a set of each of USA Craftsman Chrome polished raised panel stubbies which are REALLY quite nice. I went to Ebay to see what they might have had.

Only one complete set $250 :eyecrazy:

I was hawking GRIP brand stubbies on my summer flea mkt tool table $10 either set :D

Circle C is usually very competitive on the limited SK they carry. Hard to beat their prices. The clincher for me is free shipping over $50.00.

There's my plug.

Circle C takes any out of stock items off the web page until it is restocked as I found out in the past. You can contact them and they will give you an estimate of when they will get them back in stock. They are one of the best shippers I found on the web and they seem to really move a lot of SK because they price it sell usually the best price on the web.

Circle C is no longer going to be selling SK. What they have is what they have until it's gone. I emailed them about something that had been out of stock for quite awhile a couple of weeks ago. I got a reply from the President of CC. It seems SK tried to raise the price to Circle C by 46% and CC told them to pound sand. Look for SK to be replaced by Wright and Proto.

To sparky 1971, was that minimum advertised price or was that cost to Circle C Supply?

I was wondering why the 1/4 drive lp90 had been out of stock for so long. This isn't good news to me. I really like Circle C.

I was told not to buy anything before Christmas. I'll check my stocking Christmas morning.

It doesn't look like that will happen. According to the President of Circle C, SK is really only interested in supplying large companies like Amazon and Grainger. He said with the new pricing, he could buy from Amazon for less than he could buy straight from SK.

Well that ***** CC is where I bought all my SK tools from. Looks like I will be buying more Wright tools from now on.

All my newer SK tools have come from Circle C. If the SK rep reads this, hopefully he will try to correct the issue.

I'm not sure how many hundreds I spent on SK last year from Circle C, but it was significant. Circle C offers great service, some of the best prices around, and fast shipping. I was planning on contacting them to buy a set of the new flex heads, but that no longer seems to be an option.

Stubbies don't get alot of torque applied so unless you absolutely just want SK I can't see you regretting the Tektons

I'm with you, Lardy. I'd kinda like to try one of the new S-K's but can't do the cost when I have several of the older S-K's that cost me a buck or two.
Might just have to settle on some DT upgrade kits and modernize some of my 45170 roundheads. Ones gotta do what they gotta do.

I got the same information from circle c supply a little before Christmas. Sad to hear because they had the best reasonable prices on SK and free shipping with 50. Happy they replaced them with Wright but ***** I only found that honey hole 2 months prior to them not carrying them. If SK wants to raise prices like that they need to seriously invest in quality control. I can't tell you how many tools I've bought from SK, I had to exchange for another.
