The prices appear to be good other than high shipping charges. Interesting that the item descriptions read "Note: Due to events beyond our control, Wholesale Tool Co. can no longer honor the SK lifetime warranty." I wonder what events they would be referring to.

They will no longer be an authorized dealer, you need to go elsewhere to get a warranty exchange.(not sure if you were being sarcastic, or really wondering)

The pliers with the hinged handles pre-date the current ownership by Ideal. I would suspect that their stock is pre-bankruptcy and the note about not servicing the warranty has been up a long time. When SK was going under, they stopped supporting the warranty. I'm sure someone could dig up old threads on the matter.

so, you SK experts out there, any must have bargains from this sale?

do they have a certain dollar volume and you get free shipping? - that's about the only way I will buy anything :p

From what I'm seeing the way to make this worth it is to buy a lot.

Shipping price doesn't seem to change. So if you buy 2 dollars of tools, you pay 11 bucks in shipping, and when I added 60 dollars of tools, it was still 11 dollars in shipping.

I wonder if it has something to do with gearwrench buying sk tools

Gearwrench never bought SK tools. Gearwrench is just one of the many brands produced by Apex Tool Group.

SK was purchased by Ideal Industries several years ago.

I'm not trying to be an a-hole. I know there are a lot of different tool companies and it can be difficult to keep straight which company owns which brands.

I think he's thinking of KD? They weren't bought by Gearwrench, though. They just changed their name to Gearwrench when their gearwrenches became popular. :headscrat

I'm no SK expert but have always been very happy with their quality. As for shipping I bought 90+ items and shipping was $27.00. I was in need of some new 12 point stuff and with the exception of 1/2" drive metric shallows every set worked out to be around $30.00 so I went through the hassle of listing each part number individually :wtf:.

Are the wrenches any good? They seem to be a good deal if you add them all into the cart, 7-22mm comes out to be $70 (8mm out of stock). I do notice they are not the superkrome wrenches though

You can get an almost complete set of 1/4" and 1/2" chrome sockets for dirt cheap.

I've got a dumb question: what's a 6.3mm socket for?

http://www.wttool.com/index/page/pr...+Drive+6-Point+SuperKrome+Metric+Deep+Sockets

Are there a bunch of 127/512" nuts out there I've never seen before? :dunno:

Why not just mark it 1/4"?

Did 1/4" stuff get metrisized (metricated? metrified?) at some point?

I've got a Urrea 9.5mm socket around here somewhere, but that's a lot closer to 3/8" than 6.3mm is to 1/4" (though the difference is only a one thousandth between the two, so I might be stretching the definition of "a lot closer"). :p

I bought a couple things from this clearance about a month ago. It is all pretty reasonably priced but seemed like what I got was either NOS or returns or something along those lines. I bought all the metric hex sockets I could get and while they were definitely SK they seemed like they were from different generations of tools. Some of the sockets were press fit bits and some had removable bits with a circlips and if you look at the engraving on the sockets themselves they are different. I also bought the lug nut flip socket set as that is very useful to me and at $19.70 seemed too good to pass up. The case looked really old, covered in dust and with a label that was peeling up and turning brown. The sockets in the set may or may not have been gently used. Can't really complain based off the price though.

I agree that $11 is high shipping on first look, but if you add the shipping charge to the total price of any items you want to purchase and the final total is still a good deal then what difference does it make?

This is how I gauge Ebay purchases as well. price + shipping = deal|nodeal

It appears Wholesale Tool is clearing out their line of SK.
Pricing varies, but it looks like most is 50% off.
The first time shopper discount gets you an extra 5% off.
Shipping seems a bit high, but might be worth the discounted items.
Heres the link:
http://tool.wttool.com/search?p=Q&lbc=wttool&uid=871125776&ts=custom&w=*&af=br%3askhandtool%20cat1%3aclearancecloseoutslimitedsupply%20sale%3a1&method=and&isort=globalpop&view=grid&cnt=48
Make sure you browse the entire clearance section. The search link provided doesn't show every SK item available and there are other USA tools available as well.

not a dumb question at all

a 6.3mm is actually just a 1/4" socket relabeled for our modern metric system - just like 5.5mm isn't a real size either, it is just the old 7/32" size from the SAE days.

5.5mm (7/32") is still used all of the time in modern cars, but you can often buy the SAE labeled sizes much cheaper, especially used!

go on ebay and look at used sockets such as Snap-On and the 7/32" are often available for half of the price of the same exact socket labeled as 5.5mm - crazy!

5.5mm isn't 7/32. You can test the difference by using a 5.5mm on a 5.5mm fastener and then putting a 7/32 on it. That 7/32 is noticeably looser.

Ford started using 5.5mm in the late 70s when everything else on their cars was still SAE. They invented an oddball size because they didn't want people screwing with the stuff they used it on. Of course, non-metric-using people just used their sloppy-fitting 7/32 sockets on them, anyway.

I still have factory manuals for 90s cars and Rangers from when I was a Ford tech that show both 5.5mm and 7/32 being used on the same vehicles in different places.

Since then, it's also been adopted by many industries using small copper and brass screws (printers, copiers, etc).

I've never used a 6.3, so I can't say anything about that.

I ordered:

I received four of those pieces. I was charged for all of them. Hopefully the rest show up soon :(. I can't call during normal business hours.

I ordered about 12 SK sockets last Monday and Thursday received an email that 4 pcs were out of stock and will not ship. Haven't received anything yet. I would email their customer service, that was the only method to get a response, calling their customer service was futile. This will definitely be my last order with Warehouse Tool.

Maybe I'm missing the "bargain" part . . . . I looked through Clearance section and found SK metric 10 piece combo wrench set (8 mm to 19mm) that shows as $75 plus $15 shipping ??? For that set, $90 "closeout" price seems steep.

Some "magic" coupon code to get the 50% off ???

I received 3 boxes today, still waiting for one more box with 2 sockets. Everything was as new except the 28 mm socket stamped SK Tools my guess from the 70's !

Received my shipment yesterday - 9 sockets. Also received shipment notice with tracking# same day!

Except for the ones they had already told me were out of stock, the ones I received were correct. Now have to wait and see my credit card gets billed the proper amount.

I bought a bunch of impact sockets. I've been eyeing them for a while now. I didn't buy any of the sets as they didn't seem to be discounted much. I bought all individual sockets, granted they're not quite complete sets but they were half the price or less than the sets.

I got a bunch of deep and short sockets in both inch and metric sizes. Kind of fills a gap in my tool box. I have a lot of sears craftsman standard sockets but no impact. If I had not had the craftsman I'd have bought some of their chrome sockets. I'm sure they're better than sears too.

They will be going on sale between 50 - 75% eventually. We just need to get more listings up but we have so much to do so its taking longer then expected.
