SK cushion grip screwdrivers

Has anyone been using the sk cushion grip screwdrivers? What's your opinion of them? I've been using Klein's but am looking at the sk's recently. I do like sk's wrenches and sockets, but I know the screwdrivers are made by western forge. After reading about some wf made craftsman's, it makes me think twice about the sk's.

Really though, the WF Cman and SK are good screwdrivers. In my experience they are about equal to the much cheaper Professional line of Harbor Freight screwdrivers

I've owned hundreds upon hundreds of screwdrivers. I'll never use anything but my Wihas ever again

Sk makes some good tools but screwdrivers are not one of them. They are ok but there are much better

meh, the cushion grip are OK, but not great. I don't have any of the hard handles because I can't get over the goofy jumbo sized handles.

I ended up buying Williams hard handles and have been very pleased.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. I bought a set during SK Day, and the grip sizes get to ludicrous sizes for the larger tips. It's like trying to grip a baseball bat.

If you're talking about the ones with the black rubberized grips with green inlays, do a search on Craftsman Professional screwdrivers here, because they're the same thing, and there's a LOT of good reviews here.

They're fantastic drivers.

X2!! I bought them because a friend of mine was misusing my Proto's and it made me mad. These are perfect, he can beat on them all he wants. Should have bought these a long time ago.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I put a few of the larger sizes away yesterday. Grip is freaking enormous. I might see if I can get my hands on some Instinct drivers to see how they feel.

The regular craftsman screwdrivers (which are horrible) are not the same thing as the Craftsman Pro or SK screwdrivers. Both made by the same company, but the lower craftsman screwdrivers are obviously an inferior grade steel/heat treating or whatever it is that makes them so soft.

The CMAN PRo/SK screwdrivers are great. Not the absolute best, but still great.

However, I still think Wiha's are better (and despite being a huge SK fan, I bough Wiha screwdrivers and have never regretted it).

I agree. The precision Wiha screwdrivers and hex drivers are very durable. I had a machine that rounded off or broke many 1.5mm hex keys. I have been using a Wiha hex screwdriver for years now and it is still good as new.

I have a couple long reach ones, they are good drivers, but personally I would go with a set of Pratt Read cushion grips, they have the old Klein style grips, and are excellent drivers. Made in USA too.

My SK/CMAN Pro drivers have held up very well, and I love SK tools but the price point kills the drivers. As far as quality, they are very good.

Ive had the green and black SK set of soft handles for a few years, 2 sets actually, a garage set and a set in my desk at work. i like them for the price i paid for them and the tips have held up really well as have the cushion handles considering the oils and fluids they come in contact with. The size of the handles have never bothered me, a little big i guess for the larger sizes, i cant say i have too much preference from my sk's to my wihas.

Love the Wiha's but am even more fond of my Wera chisel drivers. Very tough,great grip and the ergonomic handle just seems to multiply torque. Also fit in the screw head is great.

My coworker has the torx set and hates them. The ends are very soft and the handles hold oil like crazy. I have a bondhus pro hold set and I don't like them very much either. For me(Industrial Maintenance) I will only be buying hard handles from now on. Soft grips store oil and metal shavings like crazy and you can never get them out. Any time I PM one of our saws I cringe when I bring my drivers out. On the plus side I love my old Vaco hard handled drivers.

Wow, lots of input. Thanks. I may pick up a set of the sk's, as I'd like to support their products. Ive had Klein's for years and they have been alright. Looking for something different. I understand wiha makes a good driver, but I like to buy american made products. Is sk doing well under ideal?

I have the Craftsman Pro version. They were indeed the best value in quality screwdrivers for the price. The 6pc set if I remember correct was $30-35. That's half of what the Armstrongs linked go for. And it looks like you can get the SKs for anywhere from $40-60 on ebay. I have a rather complete set in the home box and not one issue for years. That's one less issue than I had with my Snap ons. I broke a Phillips P3. I actually prefer the Craftsman handles to anything else I own. I have more screwdrivers than hair on my head at this point. I have SO, Cornwell(Witte),Williams, Klein, Proto Duratec, and the Craftsman. I prefer the Pros over all of them. Now I don't use them everyday anymore but I always grab them when I need a screwdriver at home. I use my Kleins everyday in my service van tool set. I don't know what all these people with all the soft Phillips tips are talking about because these get used daily in crappy conditions. Still going for the past 3 years. Even the handles have held up very well. Not the most comfy but durable. Klein needs to redesign their handles at this point IMHO. I use them for the road because Home Depot is EVERYWHERE if I need one warrantied or replaced after I lost it(happens all the time)

Wiha, Felo 400 or 500 series , Wera, or PB Swiss. I use Wiha and Felo extensively everyday like them better than my SO. Can't beat European screwdrivers. Wiha and Felo's have held up well to chemicals.

Wiha and PB Swiss in my case.

Not as big of a fan of Wera due to fit in hand (Czech made), but Felo is quite nice as well (still German). For US made, you should seriously consider Proto. An alternative would be Urrea (formerly Proto Mexico, & still make the older designs).

Check out the Klein Journeyman drivers. I like them a lot. I don't think Home Depot carries them, though, so you would lose the convenience of an in-store warranty.

As for the SK/Craftsman Professional/Armstrong drivers, they're my favorite handle design too. And the tips on mine have held up quite well over the years.

I have been using the journeyman screwdrivers the last few years. Handles are definitely better than regular Klein. Tips seem about the same. Does that vapor blasting stuff on the tips wear off and effect the tip?

Those look nice. I'm the type that likes to hold/try the feel of a hand tool before I buy. Plus I am old school I guess. I don't buy a lot of anything onine. I know there are safeguards in place for scams and such but I just don't like buying from eBay or any place. Being a small biz owner myself I try to buy from one whenever possible. I actually bought most of my Klein from a local place. But have bought some from HD. They are an SK ,Wright,Proto and more. He gives cash discounts and knows my first name and I know his.

They are available as Stanley Fatmax as well, for when the SK supply dries up. Still French made. I have some of each, as well as a whole load of other brands.

The journeyman drivers are great, I have some that are German and they have held up very well.

The regular Klein drivers now ****, the new grip handle is uncomfortable, and the new P2 tips they use are specced the same as the one that came with my toy workbench as a kid.

Klein must have changed the tips in recent years. Because I have a set that I bought at HD 2 or 3 years ago and they have been nothing short of well spectacular. Daily use in harsh conditions with not one failure or stripped. The handles could be better yes but the tips are awesome. I have heard this so much on this site I was going to return them. I have also read on the Klein site the Phillips tips on are improved and the strongest ever.
