The quality of service (in general) over the last 5-10 years has drastically gone down. It was REALLY bad when everyone started using COVID as their excuse to be ******. That quickly became the gold standard of excuses for EVERYTHING negative, and we were all expected to just accept it. Some companies are STILL using that excuse today as if it's March of 2020 all over again. lol.

You could serve some people a **** sandwich today and they would come up with an excuse why "it wasn't that bad, considering the situation"..... Hey, at least the **** sandwich had a few peanuts in it. lol.
Unfortunately, this is 100% accurate of the state of service today. Across the board, businesses now act as if they are doing you a favor by selling you their ****. I can think of very few recent positive customer service interactions I have had.

Businesses are purposely telling paying customers to “get bent” seeing this as a path to profitability? :headscrat

Sil dad’s GM dealership can’t get trucks while there are thousands of them sitting waiting to get chips at the plant 30 miles away.

Maybe they just don’t care about selling trucks.

Maybe S-K has thousands of customer support people but they’re all just sitting around shooting the **** :dunno:

The chip shortage is/was different for every company. Some companies didn't experience any silicon wafer shortage at all during covid.

The companies who are struggling to get silicon wafer only have themselves to blame for the shortage.... well, and the virus.

Large companies saw the pandemic coming, they predicted a major reduction in sales during the pandemic. To help get through the down turn in sales they declined a large percentages of their allotted silicon wafer.... The two silicon wafer manufacturers in the word turned around and sold that allotment of silicon to other companies who were still willing to buy. The companies who turned down their allotted amount of silicon permanently LOST that allotment to these other smaller companies. So, before covid, these bigger companies HAD the majority of the allotted silicon wafer in the world but they gave it up during the pandemic..... now they wait for silicon like smaller companies did before the pandemic.

Silicon manufacturers did NOT slow down manufacturing.... wafer supply is simply being sold to other customers now.

My point was not about chips, but cause and effect and downstream problem it causes.

People whined about availability and high prices for trucks, forgetting about the many reasons why that might be happening. "The car dealers where just getting rich by ripping people off"

The "six month ratchet replacement" in this case seemed to simply attributed to "poor customer service" or "not giving a ****" Maybe there were other reasons not divulged and not simple to correct.

It's interesting that people seem to be in denial, that these problems could all end today, if businesses just "got their **** together"

That would be great.

I think there is another thread where folks are complaining Snap On warranty service "not what it used to be"

Really? :headscrat

Name one of those companies that hasn’t experienced chip shortages.

Don’t use Toyota, though. Their sales are down almost 4% because of….the chip shortage.

Buick sales are up 99% over the same period, because they got past the chip shortage.

There are many... keep in mind it's not just the auto industry that buys silicon wafer.

The two major companies in the world that make silicon have been at 100% production capacity since before the pandemic started. They never slowed down. The companies who turned down their alloted silicon during the pandemic are the companies still suffering. Companies who continued to buy their allotted silicone never experienced a shortage.

Samsung didn't experience a chip shortage for their own products.

Late response, lower spec tool. That's "all right" but not Good. My bet is they searched the warehouse until they found something acceptable. I suppose it is an absolute ****-show behind the scenes and the OP is lucky he got anything at all.

I don't see SK being around much longer anyway. The new wrenches are made in China, so they are more than likely made by SATA/Apex, and are thus overpriced if their prices remain consistent with their USA-made items.

Samsung doesn’t make cars, and you didn’t identify a car company that hasn’t reported shortages affecting production.

Listen, I never said specifically car companies to begin with.... Go back and re-read all my comments. You are confused. YOU are the one who wanted me to name a car company that hasn't suffered. I never claimed a CAR COMPANY didn't suffer.

I was talking about "companies" world wide, in any industry..... NOT just "car companies".

lol

The specific discussion you responded to was about the chip shortage a poster’s father was being that kept vehicles from being delivered to his GMC dealership.

I really don’t care about your washing machines, or cell phones. Doesn’t really matter I guess, and has nothing to do with SK and their issues.

Chip demand has increased, overall, hasn’t it? Samsung is now predicting reduced demand from what I read. With two suppliers dominating the chip market, though, maybe it’s time for some competition.

Samsung does have a business relationship with Renault.

Pease.

Just because YOU don't care about washing machines or cell phones does NOT mean the chips that go into those products won't affect the overall worldwide supply and demand. The automotive industry is only a portion of the silicon market. If there is only 10 pounds of silicon being manufactured in the world, but there is a 20-30 pound (for example) worldwide demand, then every little piece of silicon makes a difference, regardless of industry..... like it or not.

And just to be clear, a good majority of auto makers declined their allotted silicon at the start of the pandemic. Other companies (in other industries) did NOT decline their silicon. The Auto manufactures have nobody to blame but themselves. They are the ones who interrupted their own steady supply of silicon.

Auto manufacturers thought the pandemic and all the jobs losses would cause car sales to stall for much longer than they did. It made sense to cut back on buying materials at the time. They didn't want to have warehouses overflowing with material for cars they thought they wouldn't be able to sell. They also thought they would need to save cash to survive the sales slump.

Instead they have lots with hundreds, maybe thousands of trucks that are 99% complete, that can't be sold because they lack electronic features. By the time they get them ready, they will be out of date anyway, since some of them have likely had design refreshes.
