SK in my future...

I have had a chance to try Wright and SK. Both are better than the Kobalt and Craftsman wrenches I have. I like the way the SK feels in my hand and I like the way the open end of the Wright fits bolts. Either way I am going for a full polish wrench.

I have. I like them, but Craftsman is the one option I am not entertaining. Sears has been rude to me for the last time.

That has to be the best advertisement for a wrench I have ever seen. It is seriously making me want to get a set of them to replace my craftsmans.

It is a gimmick because when are you going to find some pristine bolt that you can only access with an open end and was put on by Hercules? In the real world you can access almost every bolt with a boxed end and if the bolt is rusty the wrenches won't fit without pounding them on and at that point you're screwed anyways. I own a set of flank drive plus, good wrenches, but the open ends are a gimmick. I will give the companies a kudos for advertisement though.

So far I have my 1/4" set and 3/8" set. I like them a lot. I am going to wait a little while on the 1/2" set. I have been browsing ebay for odds and ends and somehow I have acquired 2 extra 1/4" ratchets, 6 3/8" ratchets and 2 1/2" ratchets. I may have a problem. Is there a 12 step program? I really like SK and I plan on buying more sockets.

Congrats on your pick and glad you like them. Which 1/4 set did you get?

I bought the 60 piece. It had a lot more to offer. On my wish list is the SK extension sets, 3/8 swivel impacts and torx and hex sockets. I also bought the 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar. That thing is a beast. These tools will get some serious use very soon.

My first socket set was a 1/4 standard set my dad gave me around '68. I still have some sockets and the ratchet. And that little ratchet is my favorite 1/4 - still works great. Now I since I have finally gotten near to my goal of having pretty complete sets of chrome and impact sockets along with good wrench sets, I have decided to upgrade my Craftsman sets. I'll keep the Craftsman and possibly move some into the house to avoid trips to the garage.

I'm leaning toward getting the 60 piece 1/4 set as it goes to 16mm on the shallow and 15mm on the deep sockets. But first I'm working on getting the 3/8 set.

And I understand you have a thing for the SK ratchets but take a look at the the Armstrong 3/8 locking flex. It's become my goto ratchet since I got it a few months ago. And if you like the round head ratchets the best - then take a look at the 3/8 and 1/2 Wright ratchets. The chrome plating is excellent and the flex 3/8 is a very good ratchet (though it is feeling a little unloved with the Armstrong now) and the 15 inch 1/2 is a really tough ratchet. It would take a lot to break that one.

Keep us updated with how they do after some use.

Reading threads like this and having similar dilemmas in choosing tools makes me wish there were more retail stores or trucks selling a variety of brands. I think I'll save my tool dollars for a bit and take a ride up to KC to visit HJE. There's no substitute for putting your hands and eyes on something.

That is a beautiful set of SK. I inherited some SK from my stepdad and then I went out and bought some sets to flesh it out. When I buy tools from now on, 9 times out of 10, they're SK.

I have 2 SK boxed sets on the way from the HJE SK day promotion. Over the last year or 2, I have been replacing older CM and others with SK. I've been well pleased with all of the new SK stuff
