SK is not going to like this

Scheduled a trip to the local pick a part junkyard for a few items on my 88 Ranger purchased last week. Most notably, a parking brake cable and a sending unit for the gas tank.
Was fortunate enough to find the brake cable and while I was going around the truck once more to see if there was anything else worth taking, something caught my eye on the bumper of an adjacent truck.
The pictures below tell the rest of the story. Both pieces were there and handle does not look abused at all. I know there was a recent thread about best junkyard find, but this one deserves it's own.

Usually the teeth go before the ratchet. Wow, that much have been some torqued on bolt.

I've never seen a SK ratchet break like that. I haven't seen that SK CUSTOM logo before either. Has anyone ever seen that SK logo?

yup i have, a low budget line from about the early 80's. i have some deep sockets from that line. turn it, in they should stand behind it. they were sold with a poorer finish in auto parts stores. i beleive the odd ratchets with a button on each side were part of that line. the wrenches had a satin finish like a stanley.

Seems odd to see it break cleanly like that on both sides in almost the same spot. You'd think one side would give and crack before it would shatter into two pieces like that. Wonder if the guts locked up and someone was standing on it?

Either way I'm sure whoever it was ended up with a nice little injury. Maybe nice enough to forget their ratchet on the way to the hospital haha.

I'd most certainly send that one in or take it to your local dealer for warranty.

Nor I. That's remarkable.

That ratchet can't have been seized judging by it's appearance... And as mentioned, you'd think the teeth would fail WELL before the handle even if some type of "cheat" was employed.

Yeah, I'd have to guess it was some type of serious flaw in the metal itself.

I'd keep it and mount it in display shadow box. It's a great conversation piece. Chances are you'll never see that again in your lifetime.
