1/2" is pretty stout. Wish it had green selector or something that was machined instead of cast look that makes it feel like they cheapened out on that one part.

Straight from SK headquarters in Sycamore,, Illinois via Fedex and SK's 30% off holiday sale is a 80180 1/4 drive 90 tooth ratchet. First impression is that it's a nice little ratchet. U.S.A. is stamped on the top of its head to keep the COO Police happy, it also has an R for righty tighty and an L for lefty loosey by the selector switch for those that are directionally challenged. I have to say though that the dull gray direction switch is pretty FUGLY against the chrome of the ratchet body but, i guess the green switch from the first 3/8 run was too expensive. Grease, Grime, and use might make it look better, yeah, no.

I think the SK sale runs until Monday. There's also Epstein's so get some SKness for the Holidays.

If you had severe enough OCD and access to a buffing wheel you could probably polish the selector up nice.

Probably MIM part. Totally acceptable in a part like that. Machining that part would be unnecessary and add to the total price noticeably.

Look like great ratchets. I might grab one up! I think the matte selector gives it a solid look. Lokks good.

I can't believe it! I got tired of waiting and purchased another 1/2" ratchet, which I received this Monday. Now I see THIS!! Anyone heard of the possibility of a quick-release version coming out?

Are any of you guys thinking about disassembling your new SK ratchet for a few minutes?

They had a real winner on their hands when they had the green anodized selector on their new 90's , but they had to go and take it away. I'm already hearing comments about how ugly the unfinished selector is.

The non-green selector on the original 3/8" was a bait & switch.

The non-green-selector on the new 1/4" is a deal-breaker for me.

Oh the first ones were anodized? Thought they were paint. I never had anything anodized that held up better than baked on acrylic paint. I never seen the first batch in person. Always thought it was paint. It would be harder to match the anodize. I thought the selector was steel not aluminum.

I'm pretty sure the original lever was cast aluminum.

Anodize soaks in below the surface; that's why it's so durable.

It's like a stain for metal.

But its aluminum... Which dings and scratches extremely easy. In my experience, anodizing is not very tough. Its better than raw aluminum, but not by a whole bunch.

And saying anodize soaks in like stain is not really true at all. Its just an oxide layer that is electrically built up on the surface. Hence the name, anodize.

I doubt the selector is aluminum. If it is anodized, maybe zamak or other magnesium aluminum alloy for castability and strength. Its just kind of a bad application for aluminum.

My guess was MIM or some sort of sintered metal part. Maybe someone that has one can check it.

The oxide layer doesn't provide the color. Anodized parts are dyed during the anodizing process. The dye soaks into the pores of the aluminum oxide. Properly done dyed anodized coatings are very durable.

Painting the selector won't have the same kind of durability if it really is green anodized. Maybe if you went all out and used some ultra durable epoxy paint on it, it might hold up.

Even after all the years of being a part of this place, it cracks me up what people will argue about almost daily.

:lol_hitti :lol_hitti

I haven't orderd any of them yet, the wife requested I not spend any money on tools until after the first of the year. And she refuses to buy me things like this for Christmas presents. Oh well. Not as though I actually need another ratchet at this point.

This is my problem too, with three at 8 or younger the kids come first this season, but there is next month and these look good.

Anyone received their 1/4 LP90 rachet yet? I just got mine and noticed the cover plate is bulging out on the bottom. I tried to fix it, but it won't sit flat. The cover plate is perfectly flat when I put it on the table though.

My 3/8” Drive LP90 feels a little crunchy. I’m debating on servicing it. What type of lubrication would you guys recommend?
