SK or Wright

Hey y'all

I'm going to purchase either SK or Wright hand tools. Large sizes 1&3/8 to2"
What do you think?

The thing is, to each his own... I mostly try to buy USA made stuff no days. Its getting slim pickings now days. I would get whatever offers the best value. But what are you looking at getting? Wrenches, sockets?

If you're talking sockets, I don't believe you can go wrong with either.

If you're talking wrenches, the only thing I would say is, get the ones that are lighter in weight and if possible, black oxide or some other industrial coating other than chrome. It seems the bigger the wrench, the more chrome peel, at least in my experience.

I've got a set of Snappy's from 1 1/16" through 2" in black oxide. Once you get over 1 1/2", they start getting real heavy, real fast. Check and see if Wright still offers wrenches with round beams as opposed to the standard flat wrench beam. I believe the round ones are lighter.............wish mine were.

Ratchet? Wright with the longest damned handle possible. Nothing against SK's, they're just too short IMO.

If you're talking wrenches... I own both and use both. You can't go wrong with either... I'd simply look for the better deal on the two. Length on SK standard size wrenches is about negligible in those sizes (I have the standard sizez SKs up to 3/4. They are noticeably shorter than Wrights of the equivalent size), so I don't think you have to shell out cash for a long pattern set. They are both excellent wrench sets. I think you will find a better deal on Wright wrenches if you look (especially full polish)

Sockets? Same. You will probably find a better deal on SK talking sockets, but if your heart is set on Wright then have at it.

Ratchets? I don't have a Wright ratchet... have a bunch of SK stuff though. My long handled flex head SK in 1/2 is one of my most commonly used ones... great ratchet.

In the end, I'd just see where you can get better prices out of the two, every piece I own and have used from both companies has been excellent.

Disclaimer: I use my stuff. Professionally. Hard. If you are looking for something to put behind glass, throw my advice out the window, I can't help you.

Wright makes the better industrial grade stuff then SK. Proto and wright are the big boys for larger industrial hand tools.

SK is a pro machinic grade tool.

I prefer Wright and Armstrong over SK. But I have to say that Snap on Industrial have one of the best industrial tools and first choice for Army and Aerospace Industry.

Proto makes allot of tools for aerospace industry and the mil as well. Sk is just not at the level of the big industrial grade tool makers. But to each their own.

True. I really like PROTO. They actually older than Snap on. In fact, when I was a kid, living in Mexico, all the mechanics had PROTO and URREA(Mexican Brand)tools, just a few use Snap on (less dealers) and anybody had Craftsman. I also remember that PROTO used a BIG trucks and BIG open to the public retailers. Against Snap on Volkswagen mini panels (In Mexico= VW combi) and same than here, no stores or places to buy them. BTW. I want to purchase a 1/4 socket set,just to collect it, before they start selling Stanley China made stuff only.

All proto sockets are made in the USA, their finish is excellent. They are top notch stuff.

They do not make a high teeth ratchet,their new ratchets with 45 teeth are super smooth.

Wright is king when you're talking big stuff, both in price, and finish quality.

In those sizes go with Wright. I use Wright in those sizes on Naval guns and some of them are surely older than I am.
