I must have more than a dozen SK 45170 ratchet, love them and use them everyday.

A couple of them were a bit loose and I am trying to get hold of a rebuilt kit, but they were almost $25 each shipped on amazon and ebay! Are there cheaper kits that just replaces the pawl and spring?

Also I am trying to find the part number for the rebuilt kit that converts the smaller 1/4 drive to 3/8 to make myself a light duty stubby ratchet.

Call SK's 1-800 number and follow the automated teleprompts for ratchet rebuild kits. You'll leave your mailing info and part numbers of the ratchets you need kits for and they'll send them to you, get this.........for free. Seriously.

You can take that inner module apart, at which point you could stretch the spring a bit and put it back together, if the problem isn't a stripped pawl. I have a 45170 too, and had to take it all apart to clean a few decades of gunk out. And of course to figure out how it worked.

There's a low price ratchet available used that looks almost like a copy of it but has a different kind of drop-in innards where the selector clicks, which I like. Clicks solid like a switch. The SK selector just stops turning.
