How many teeth do the SK round head ratchets have? I was thinking abouit buying a set of them... 1/2 and 1/4 and would like some opinions on them. I ahve Proto pear head ratchets now, and they are ok but have a real rough action to them.

Not to thread jack too much but if you crack open those Protos and lube them up with Super Lube, which can be had just about anywhere (HF, Amazon, eBay, etc.) they will be smooth as butter. Just takes a light coating. Done it on mine, the 24 tooth models, the higher tooth Big Dawgs and both really smoothed out afterward. Give it a shot, you can buy a literal lifetime supply (toothpaste sized tube) of the stuff for less than $5 in most places.

I might try that as they are good ratchets, just not that smooth. My 1/2 one is just plain heavy... which is why i'm trying to find something not as bulky and heavy.

the Tuff-1 ratchets are 72 tooth

The Pro series are (check alloy artifacts to be certain though) 1/2 drive 40 tooth, 3/8 drive 50 tooth, 1/4 drive 60 tooth.

These are really good ratchets. I have not had any problems with mine except i lost a plunger inside of my 1/2" one when i cleaned and re-lubed the ratchet.

My 1/2" weighs 1 pound 6 ounces.
It's a great ratchet.

I usually prefer smooth handles and pear heads over knurled handles and round heads. But it's still a fantastic ratchet

I counted somewhere around 50 teeth in the 1/2" and about 63 in the 1/4".

But there both older, I don't know it they changed any.

Yeah, it's like Mrholeshot said, depends on models and years. I have a 42470 that was made around 1970s and I count 48 teeth. It's an S-K Wayne. This ratchet is more of a memory maker for me rather than being used as a tool.

I don't have the newer 1/2" ratchets but I sure like how smooth the 3/8" and 1/4" S-K Tuff-1s feel. They are 72 tooth for both that I have. I think I'll pick up the 1/2" one of these days.

I have three or four SK ratchets. The newest one I have (purchased about six months ago) is a 1/4" drive flex head and it has 60 teeth. The other two are older, one 1/4" drive and a 3/8" drive. I'd say they are both at least 60 teeth as well.

If you're going to buy those ratchets, get them from a GJ member (me). I have both the original style round head (42470) and the long handle tuff-1 (40175). Cheaper than anyone on amazon on top of it. also have 3/8 and 1/4 stuff and rebuild kits.

im just looking for a spring

Alex should have the repair kit for the 1/2" round head ratchet. I bought one from him just recently. I believe everything you need would be in the 42470-2 kit. You could keep the other parts for spares if you only need the spring. Prices are definitely right. I highly recommend giving him some business.

I already have a repair kit i bought from our local farm implement dealer - http://www.farmersinc.com/ ,who sells S-Ktools, Grey Pneumatic and, Felo products. if i can find a spring, i will return the rebuild kit. i think it went for around $20-$25.

I have an S-K 1/2 ratchet 42470 that I purchased from Alex71, it's a really smooth-action ratchet. I have a couple of the 1/4 drive S-K 45170 rats that I have rebuilt (older models, one is an S-K Wayne); the rebuild kit usually runs about $15 (found my kits on Amazon.com). They are the smoothest-action ratchets I have in my toolbox and get regular use.
