SK ratcheting screwdriver

I would have to agree. I have a couple and I never reach for them. I can usually spin a screwdriver faster than a back and forth ratcheting motion.

Reversegear, a GarageJournal member, sent me a private message last month about the SK stubby ratcheting screwdriver. Here are his thoughts:

1) Beats the pants off Gearwrench's Geardriver and slightly better than the Snap-On orange handle ratcheting screwdriver

2) Slippage no better or worse than most others

3) Switch will not accidentally reverse when in use [unlike Gearwrench's Geardriver]

4) If you can buy these from your local dealer or retailer, grab 'em up. The ODM manufacturer [located in Taiwan] is no longer selling these to SK, and will not do so in the foreseeable future.

The ODM manufacturer makes the stubby ratcheting screwdriver also for Facom and Britool. I purchased the Britool version from Quattrojon. He is a GarageJournal member living in England. He runs a "tool truck" business out of his van catering to automotive mechanics. I have used the Britool version quite a bit over the last month. It is a quality ratcheting screwdriver and I recommend it over Gearwrench's Geardriver.

Thanks for the input. I'm in the aviation world and we tend to use ratcheting screwdrivers more than others. I have a couple and use SO. I'm helping my son out with some tools and saw this for a lot less $ than SO. Thought it would probably be good for him.

i have the regular handle version, but i rarely use it. it seems ok. the pic you show of the reverse gear is not the same as the sk though. the sk uses a square drive like gear wrench and others use. the one in the above pic has what appears to be 1/4 inch hex drive. the rest is obviously the same but it is a major differance between them. i may have to pick up the stubby. i always thought the two handles packaged to gether would make more sense and be very versatile.

I've got this one and have used it. It is ok, seems to be pretty well made and the bits seem to hold up well.

I have that screwdriver and I love it. The one I got had a slight problem with one of the shafts, but the driver is top notch.Here is a thread I started with the details.

Also, I bought a Snap-on shaft for mine because I noticed the magnet on my Snap-on screwdrivers was strong enough to hold the screws to the bit, while the SK and Gearwrench magnetic bit holders did not. They retained the bit itself just fine, but they were not magnetic enough to keep the screw stuck to the bit.
