I have a 40970 SK 1/4" ratchet that needs a kit. Since I have several of these ratchets I figured I would put a 3/8" kit in it. I know the 45173-2 kit will do this. Who has the best price on this kit? Ebay wants $22 or more for it.

What would S-K charge for it? Prolly wouldn't give to you under warranty, but, I'd think they'd have to kit to sell.

I emailed SK when I needed a kit for my ratchet. I only needed a new selector wheel. SK sent a rebuild kit, which included the wheel for free. I would say that they exceeded expectation there. Drop them a line.

As with others, I wrote SK and got a free kit, great customer service.

Just email SK Tools and tell them for what model ratchets you need the repair kit and you should find them at your doorsteps in just a few days... SK Tools has the best warranty in tool industry... Better then any truck brand out there.. Yes better ..

Good to hear. Did they mail you the 3/8 or 1/4 kit?

I e-mailed them about three ratchets that I have and I told them I'd get them the other when I got it out.

They said, "No problem, we'll mail these three out and when you get the other number just let us know".

Excellent service.

Curious, did you get the rebuild kits? I asked for 3 and got the first 2 kits sent weeks apart (the first came a few weeks after calling) and I never got the third.

Not yet, I gave them 3 of 4 model #s I needed. The other is in a rollaway and I really have to dig for it, so when I think of it, I'll jot down the model # and they'll send it.

I bought one because it did not feel right to ask SK for something that was needed only because I was modifying something.

My bad! I missed that part, someone else got a rebuild from them. Sorry I should have paid more attention to the names next to the replies lol.

I love these 40970 ratchets. Has anyone noticed that the old ones (SK in a diamond, or SK-Wayne) seem to be much more precision machined? The ones i have have very tight tolerance between the handle and the rebuild kit. The later ones (1965 and later) have some beautiful chrome but feel like they have a little more play in them.

I have four of these ratchets and the one with the diamond logo feels the best. I took it apart, cleaned it and lubed it. It is my favorite 1/4" ratchet.

I got two of the three kits yesterday. One of them is on backorder according to S-K, so that is the reason for you also to probably not get them all at once.

Very good service and they said, "No problem, get us the other ratchet model # and we'll get you a kit, anytime".

I did the same thing, same ratchet and same kit.
I think I paid about $17 for my kit at Epsteins to convert my 1/4 to a 3/8 ratchet.
I have emailed SK about kits for ratchets that were slipping and they were awesome about it,but I bought the kit I needed for the conversion of the ratchet.
Based on my experience with SK customer service,I have started adding more and more SK tools to my box. I like the commitment they have made in manufacturing stuff in the USA.

Yes I have! The older ones with the small bar selector that were hard chromed seem very smooth.
