I'm thinking of replacing my metric deep set with an SK spline set. I see these sets for a decent price on ebay. My current deep set (which I don't use much) was made in Taiwan that I got from JC Whitney in the late 80's. I'm missing several and thought to just get a new set. I don't see much in the way of spline/square/12 point bolts, but I thought it would be nice to have for rounded bolts that I do see. I realize that SK doesn't make them anymore and I wouldn't be able to get replacements, but I'm not a professional mechanic. I'd consider the craftsman spline for less money, but they don't have the 15mm which I use a lot of. Any reason not to get sk's?

I don't know about the SK brand in particular, but I like my Craftsman ones. They're made in Taiwan, but are of good quality. I used mine and was happy with them. The only draw back I see is they are slightly thicker than most deep sockets (at least my Craftys are) and don't fit into tight recesses.
I just went and checked mine, and you're right, there is no 15mm??? WTF?? I mostly bought my set for the SAE, but if I noticed a skipped size, I would not have bought them.
For the money, why not go for it. If you're not a pro, then they'll probably work just fine.

i am going to say no and for a couple reasons.
1. they are discontinued
2. they are fine tool to add to the arsenal but not before main line tools.
3. if you were to add spline i would go with shallow first then deep.
this just an observation and i have no facts to base this on, just opinion. i doubt that sk made them and would say they were outsourced. as an example, all of sk's spline wrenches were imported and outsourced. if they didn't make the wrenches, i doubt they made the sockets.

There is a 15mm in the new 1/2" drive Craftsman spline set I have. So new it's only in stores; not even mentioned online.... I'd consider the craftsman spline for less money, but they don't have the 15mm which I use a lot of. Any reason not to get sk's?

I have a 3/8 deep (more like semi deep) metric set. They are decent quality and do work well. Mine are stamped U.S.A

I own the complete SK 3/8" drive spline set (standard/metric, shallow and deep), and I will say that I really like them. I've used them fairly often and they've never let me down, though to be fair if I encounter particularly stuck bolts I typically move to a 1/2" breaker bar and 6pt socket to bust them loose, at least if there's room. They're extremely useful for turning partially rounded fasteners as well.
Given their discounted prices, I say give em a try, though I wouldn't say they're a replacement for good old 6-point sockets. More of a supplement.

Thanks for all of the responses. I ended up purchasing this shallow set for under $26 on ebay. The seller states that they are USA made. I'll keep a lookout for 6pt deep sockets. I can always upgrade to usa craftsman set.
