SK Tool Chest

This weekend I went to GA to visit my father who is 83. He insisted that I bring home his rolling tool chest as it was deteriorating and he knew I would restore it and take care of it.

So... I thought I would share. It is from the Dresser Industries era from the label but it is so filthy and has so much surface rust that I can't tell much else.

It also still has the lift out tool tray with it, Can't wait to restore it to new and show it to dad.

Does anyone know anything about these boxes of this vintage? The green is a bit lighter than the older SK trays I have (in the undamaged areas inside the box) Any guess on the age? He got it used in the mid-1980s.

Drawer pulls and knob on bottom compartment look just like my Waterloo which is a '75. Look on the bottom on the front just under the compartment door and see if there is a date stamp. There may also be one in the top chest in the top compartment on the left side.

That's a beautiful Waterloo chest Biscuit!

No date stamps that I can find, but the box is quite dirty and needs cleaned up just to assess it's condition fully. Thanks for the info though. 1975 would be about right I'm guessing. Do you know if the pulls are available from Waterloo? These are rusty and I'd rather replace them than have them plated again.

the "S K TOOLS" era came after the "S K Wayne" era. If I remember correctly the wayne era went to the late 1960's so my guess would be the 1970's to 1980's. I do have several socket boxes from this era if you need a close color i can take some pics for you. This is a nice chest. This would be one of the first rolling tool chest that s-k made. They did not make any of these during the wayne, lectrolite, or diamond era

I would like some photos if you don't mind.

This seems to be a lighter than the SK Green than the SK Wayne era, and it's a hammered finish. Any ideas how to get a hammered paint custom mixed??

I will send you some pics of various boxes not for sure on how to get the textured finish . I was going to restore one but was worried about this. Talked to a body shop guy and he told me to use some undercoating then paint it.
The diamond era ran from the very late 1920s which would be the 2nd generation of s-k till the 1940's or 1950's I have to look when the partnered with Lectrolite. These sockets have a knurled base and a diamond logo(except for 3/8" Dr.)

Never and I repeat never ask about color to someone like myself that can not see color, but if I was a guessing man I would say that the color has faded from all these many years. I would think that color if my memory is still intact was a shade called pea green somewhat darker in color.

Good point!

It is a pea green, so your memory is correct. It is lighter in comparison to the older SK color, even inside where the surfaces are untouched.
