There are hairline scratches all over my SK wrenches. Silly question, but really, can SK replace them through the warranty process? There is some rust within the chrome plating, which is hard to remove, and a section of the 12-point end is rusted leaving it unsettling when placed on a fastener :p

Oh, and to add on (pictures will be posted soon), a set of sockets I acquired (happen to be from the Dresser era) is missing chrome inside. Can SK replace those sockets too?

You said in another thread that you got the SK wrenches used. And now you want SK to warranty them because of scratches and a little rust? Quite interesting point of view! I assume that they work fine just don't meet your cosmetic expectation. But you didn't pay full retail since they are used. And you want to warranty Dresser era sockets because there isn't chrome inside. But do they work? How do they fit on a fastener? Yep, silly question - call them, ask and post back their response. :dunno:


I bought a used 1/2 SK ratchet last year at a flea market for $8. Works fine after cleaning and lubing but the chrome is worn and scratched. The last thing I would do is ask SK to warranty it for me because of cosmetic wear. I think I got more than I paid for and am very happy with it.

Here is what I intend to Warranty, What happened inside the sockets?

That 1/4" Ratchet as well as extension and bit driver is in pristine condition, unused, Brand New, would only warranty the sockets (SAE 1/4" Drive) though

Hello guys
Think yourself lucky. It's much more difficult from outside the USA! SK have no representation in the UK since the Facom days. My 1/4 drive spinner handle decided to detach itself a month ago. I carefully packaged it and airmailed it....and nothing! Ho hum. I suppose I had better risk an international call....

So you were actually serious about this? There's nothing wrong that I can see with the 14mm wrench. And the sockets - you got me. :dunno:

How 'bout trying to turn some nuts and bolts with the wrenches and sockets instead of staring at them and fretting about the finish? Sometimes it seems to me that there is too much tool polishing on this forum and not enough tool using.

Guess how much I paid for the socket set along with ratchet, extension, and driver? $40, did I over-pay? (Oh and shipping not included :lol:). The sockets look like they should be displayed at a Museum, haha

I think one of the hardest things to achieve in tool buying is the feeling of satisfaction. I may have overlooked all the aspects of tool buying, spending way too much time over at the Hot Deals section of the forum. I don't get to use every single tool everyday, but when I have a task at hand the condition of the tool can get in the way.

I thought members here still warranty their SK tools. I'm not sure what the response from SK will be especially on a set of a old Vintage SK Tools. I felt it was necessary to ask on this thread rather than creating a whole thread only to be redirected to this old thread. :dunno:

The only time the "condition" of the tool gets in my way is if the tool is out of spec (doesn't fit the fastener); worn out; flaking or chipping causing a potential injury; or it breaks. How it looks cosmetically usually has nothing to do with usability.

As for warranty, company policies change over time. Reviving a long dead thread to ask about current warranty policies isn't efficient. It is time consuming for people to read through old, possibly no longer relevant, posts only to find a current question at the end. As for cosmetic issues, if I was in charge of SK's warranty dept., the wrench would not be warrantied as long as it still fits and turns 14mm fasteners. And trading in perfectly usuable old sockets for new would not happen either. But the only way for you to know is to contact them. Speculation on a tool forum will do nothing to answer the question.

If you want perfect condition, buy new; put in your toolbox after you put on a good coating of wax; and never use them. But it sort of defeats the whole purpose of having tools, doesn't it? Me, I like to use my tools and the "patina" that they have from use actually makes me feel better as I know I have done/accomplished something with them. But to each his own.

I very well agree with you PJNJ and thank you for reinforcing the reason we all own tools. As these were recent acquisitions, I haven't spent much time working with them, and they're just currently tucked away in the drawer.

Even had I purchased them Brand New, I'm pretty sure they would be no escape from scratches, dings, and other cosmetic damage. You're right, its a tool and is meant to be used. I've seen worse though where some just collect tools, I don't know if that would fall under the category of hoarding, but some have the whole Harbor Freight catalog tucked into their Garage (exaggeration expressed).

Then some seller on eBay sells his Snap On Tools which have no signs of use and are still wrapped in saran wrap, :lol:

I think only tools which legitimately deserve to be classified as collectibles are the ones which are vintage and are no longer in production by any manufacturer and deserves much respect.

Btw, its still strange though to see the inside of these SK sockets appear in such a way as if someone had done some sort of welding within them, :lol:

Since Ideal bought SK, I have had one occasion to warranty a couple sockets.

I sent an email on Friday evening, I received a reply before lunch on Monday. I explained that the 2 sockets came to me through my dad's estate, I mailed them out on Thursday, Monday was a Federal holiday, the replacement tools were received the following Monday.

I'm well pleased with their warranty, and I'm waiting for SK Day 2016 to buy my X-Frame Ratcheting Wrenches

SK warranty was relatively simple for me. A nice girl named Amber I believe emailed me back right away and included a prepaid postage to ship the tool out. It took a few weeks to get it back, but I got it. And FYI, I hear stories that SK and Snap On reps are members on this site and read stuff like this. Should they receive a warranty request for the items mentioned above, they just might ask you for proof of original purchase.

SK doesn't require original proof of purchase. As long as you have a tool with the SK logo on it, that tool is covered by their Lifetime Warranty. They know that their tools have been passed on generation after generation and they (SK) are proud to offer their lifetime warranty. They are not Snap On, that's for sure. :)
