Why haven't you guys got anything yet?

I got mine:D

Of course, I got my stuff at last year's SEMA show and not from a votech program coupon.

Now just because most of you are no go's at getting free swag, there is no reason to become a SK hater just because this coupon didn't work.

They're still great tools (aside from their current screwdrivers), still US made, and still offer a lot for your money.

Have a GREAT TOOL WEEK!!!!!

My limited edition deluxe leather bound catalog was delivered today by professional **** models. The cap was a MIC POS, but the c-note and 8 ball tucked into the hat band made up for that.

I asked one of the models when my pals at GJ would get their stuff. She said the guys that answered the survey incorrectly wouldn't get ****.

I put my old high school and auto shop teacher; didn't want to lie!

Did the same thing.
Are today's kids even interested in tools?
Got a feeling a lot of older guys will be wearing SK hats.

I have no doubt that SK will deliver on this, they left the promo open a LONG time on their website. I imagine they have a LOT of hats and catalogs to order... But then I'm patient when it comes to getting things for free. ;)

I do not understand the hurt here. You either liked and actually buy their tools or you never did to begin with. Letting something as silly as not getting free promotional material is asinine.

WRONG! Doing a promo like this and failing to communicate is what is asinine. A quick email blast saying "you guys overwhelmed us - give us a few weeks to get back in stock" is all it would have taken.

I hope their marketing person got his/her **** handed to them for something as stupid as this. There is NO excuse for it.

I don't get it.
Did they promise delivery by a certain date?
Did they miss a deadline?
If you need a hat badly, a lot stores sell them and they're reasonable.

I imagine that to give a bunch of stuff away for free, it would make sense to do it as cheaply as possible. Like one production run and one bulk mailing.

Sheesh, serves SK right for trying to do something nice.
I'd hate to think all their warranty claims get delayed because they have to hustle out a bunch of free hats or do a bunch of email correspondence.

Get a life!!

You know damn well this was not intended for GJ members. It was targeted for tech students but we all fudged with the form and fake instructor names.

It looks like SK will have to get another boatload of caps made since they were overwhelmed. It takes a long time for the boat to sail from China.

That's hilarious Dave!

I did not join this promo with you guys for the simple reason that I felt it didn't apply to me. My school days are done.

It would be funny if S-K monitored this thread. Hey S-K, what was with the girl in the promo ad with the tramp stamp?

A little different, but similar. I signed up for the Free Napa Carlyle club, not expecting anything. Then BAM!!! A box shows up with a membership card, a catalog, a pen and last but not least, a free hat. I thought that was a cool gesture and will in turn return the favor by treating myself to some of their wrenches. I have no hate for SK. I love their stuff and hope they keep on cranking it out.

I agree with this comment.

I submitted my info because I use and like SK tools and I don't wear anything with a logo on it unless it's a company whose products I use and would endorse. I am not a student or "real" pro (although that line's been blurred lately) so if I don't get a hat it's no skin off my nose. And hey, I didn't get free stuff. Oh well. I still have two sets of combo wrenches, some sockets, and some Torx sockets that I really like.

I really wanted an SK hat.

My initials are SK and I thought that would be pretty cool to have a hat with my initials on it.

If I don't get one, it won't wreck my week. Hell, I won't even cry.

For the record, I actually didn't know this, lol...:spit:

But seriously, this is kinda silly getting all butthurt over this. I actually felt partially bad applying because I already HAVE an SK catalog, but I love their tools and I really wanted the hat.:D I am gonna give the catalog to a friend who is interested but doesn't have one.

I just really, really don't see the problem.:wtf:

I hope I get a hat and I hope its made in usa! I just spent $80 is SK tools today.

I don't think that a USA made ball type cap is even available.

When I retired, I purchased a professional embroidery machine. Hats are a big thing, but never ran across any made in country.

Anybody else retire and do embroidery, and logging? Raise your hands.:rocker:

Farmall:

I picked your post to respond to, because I think it's most relevant.

Perhaps this wasn't the place to make this post, but I stand by my statements. I have been in marketing for 25+ years, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this IS a BIG DEAL. I was not and am not trying to bash SK as a brand, but am STATING A FACT that this was handled unbelievably poorly by them. You need to do no more than read this thread to see how many people have been disappointed by them so far. Pages and pages of 'nothing yet' or similar comments.

SK screwed up BIG TIME in ONE area - communication:

Did *YOU* get a response saying that your request had been received? I didn't.

Did *YOU* get a response saying that you were or were not eligible for this promotion? I didn't.

Did *YOU* get a response saying that they were overwhelmed and needed more time to fulfill the offer? I didn't.

At this point I have no idea whether I will or won't even get a catalog?!

My point in all this is that they did a NICE thing with the offer, but totally blew it on the execution!!! I am pretty sure that any goodwill they intended to generate has now been neutralized - i.e. they wasted their time, effort, and money.

You and others are also correct that nobody is going to die if they don't get a free hat. My post - perhaps worded a bit strongly because I am passionate about expectations in sales and marketing - was that this whole mess could be used as a case study in Marketing 101 on how NOT to do a promotion.

And to others who asked, essentially, "what harm was done" - the answer is that the ability to trust SK to follow through has been called into question. I realize that they are building or rebuilding the brand, and I not only applaud them for that - I wish them great success. I am considering them for future tool purchases, but - like others - am watching to see how things play out.

This just wasn't handled well, and I hope they are able to get their marketing act together.

Sorry if I wasn't clear or some people misunderstood my post. I'll get off my 'marketing excellence' soapbox now, and go back to being a tool nerd. Maybe I can find a hot deal to post next, instead of a diatribe.

:dunno:

MN4x4,

I totally agree. In my line of work EVERYTHING is communication and documentation. It is SO SO VERY IMPORTANT to call people back, and update them on the status of (insert item here).

It is good business. People will say, "Hey, he called me and told me what was going on." vs "I still haven't heard from that SOB."

And in reality, I'm sure SK could have sent 1 email to all applicants to say they were overwhelmed.

Everyone here would be waiting still, but at least they would understand and know why.

Good post.
