SK Tools Impact Universal Joint Set Opinion Needed

Hello all:

I am thinking of getting the 86 piece IR impact set that has been mentioned here a few times and mating it with the SK Tools universal joints shown in the attached link. What do you think? Can I do better for the money? They will be used with a 1/2" and 3/8" impact.

Truth be told, the 1/4 inch impact probably isn't going to do you much good so you're paying for 3 universal's and will likely only use two of them. C-man makes a 3/8 universal for $15 and a 1/2 for $17. I have both of them and they do the job just fine. You'll probably have an easier time getting the C-man warrantied too. SK's warranty has gotten some less than stellar reviews lately.

I bought this set and have been pretty happy with it. I think I paid 150 or so for it, but also got a lot more stuff than just the u-joints. Nice for a starter set.

Thats a good price for a set that size. I have a lot of old IR impact sockets and they have served me well. The newer IR sockets aren't US made (don't know how important that is to you) but IR is still a top notch company and according to the info on Amazon, you still get a lifetime warranty. IR is very good when it comes to warranty btw.

I have the same accessory set that 48548 mentions above and its a very good set.

Between the impact socket set you're looking at and the accessory set mentioned above, you'd be set for a good long time.

If using heavily you should go with snap ons, they hold up to daily, heavy use where I work. If just occasional diy type work the craftsman set seems to be your best bet.

the sk impact swivels have the ring around them that holds the pin in place. I have broken 3 or 4 of the craftsman swivels in a few years. Some of them the pin brakes, others it comes out the side. The SK's will still brake, but not come out.

I have since switched to the pinless design and would 100% recommend them. I have been using the same swivel for over 3 years now and its still going strong. I think craftsman and Mac are the only ones selling them.

This set will be no different in quality from the harbor freight impacts, just more expensive. If you're going to buy asian sockets you may as well save money and get them from hf.
