Has hf ever done significant acquisition? I don't think so. Seems their model is to intro their own made-up brand

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.

Their current model is to make their own brands-names, but I don't think having a USA-made tool line would be a bad idea at all for them. Would put footprint with pros where they don't have trucks, would probably add scope/volume, would bring people in the store that probably wouldn't have otherwise, etc. - and of course it wouldn't hurt to have a privately-owned business grab them instead of a private-investor group...

It seems like they don't have lots of retailers and have lost some recently.

Wouldn't be the worst PR move for HF either.

HF doesn't make anything just like craftsman never made anything either (or Matco)......all of HF tools are contracted out and all of their numerous brands are invented by HF for marketing. Buying a real company like SK is not at all consistent with their business model.
