I had an SK ratchet that broke. All I really needed was a gut kit. So I called SK and they told me to contact my closest warranty center. Okay, no problem. There was no phone number just an address. Sent a letter and got this today. Boy oh boy.

I wasn't aware SK was a knock-off tool. I was pretty pleased with these ratchets. I have two of them and oddly enough the newer one broke. Maybe I will just buy Craftsman in the future.

hahaha good stuff. Their new ratchets are junk from my experience. I bough the sk 3/8 spline socket kit. The sockets rock, but the ratchet that came with it was DOA.

What was the part number on that 3/4 Drive ratchet?

The part number for the ratchet is 47170, I'm not sure of the part number for the kit itself, I couldn't navigate their site well enough to find out.

I ordered a kit for a ratchet via e-mail to their customer service less than a year ago. I got a reply back about a week later and the kit about a week after that, free of charge...

i call bs on this. something does not sound right. that letter does not look like anything that any business i know of would send out. i also doubt calling sk would get that answer. if you can call sk you would have the part number. also if you can use this forum you can use sk's website to find part number info. their site is quite easy to use. i just don't buy this story.

Yeah this definitely does not sound legit. A proper business would never use curse words in their official letters and the fact that their is no header on the letter does not help either. Plus the spelling mistakes give it away as a fake and/or a practical joke. I would try the next closest dealer that actually has a phone number posted.

I agree with everyone who says this sounds very fishy. No professional business rep of any kind would send something like that, unless they wanted to get fired/sued.

I agree that it is not a professional response but I am sure that there is some bad blood between SK and some of their wholesale distributors. I am hearing that they owe some distributors over a million dollars for warranty claims. That kind of money can definitely change someones attitude. I would be curious to know what warehouse you contacted to get that kind of response.

I got my hands on a SK 1/2 drive ratchet last week that needed a rebuild, looked high and low for a tool truck guy that could fix it, found out that a local auto electric rebuilder keeps the rebuild kits for them. not sure how a guy would go about getting his hands on one to rebuild it themselves.

And SK farmer, maybe you can find me the part # for that kit, I still couldn't find it. And this wasn't a slight on SK's warranty but the distributor. I've had two distinct phone interactions with SK the one mentioned above and then one with a separate item where they claimed they'd send a replacement part in the mail more like you described. I'm still waiting on that one too.

47170-2 is a cap , innerbody and clip spring. the 45170-9 is a pawl, stem pin and clip spring. i am sure the -9 kit exists but i have only seen the -2 kit. that kit contains the complete asembly and drops right in. i should have made my original comment differantly. i did not mean to imply you were making it up. it is the response you got that does not make sense or seem right. i pulled this info from my catalog i will do the online search and see if i find it there.

The Mac tools dealer also has SK tools available on his truck, and he states the warranty on the tools are a PIA to deal with. He hardly sells any SK. I also have the 3/8 drive spline socket set, I don't use the drive I only use the sockets. I found them at Sears in the clearance shelf, someone bought online and returned to the store.

i also went to the sk website. it did not link me to that part number and i could not find it. i did a quick google search for 47170 rebuild kit and many places showed that they could be purchased for somewhere in the 40 to 50 dollar range. do you still have the parts or did you send them somewhere. if it was mine i would try another channel or go back to sk directly.

Really, if you got that e-mail from someone you contacted through official channels, you should forward it to SK directly. That's just a completely unprofessional response to a customer question or concern. The company should know.

From how that letter is written i bet the company doesn't give a phuck what SK thinks. Espically if SK has been dicking them around and owes them warranty money:thumbup:.

Probably true. I'd still alert SK so they can terminate their relationship with the person.

If he doesn't want to represent or do business with SK anymore, then he should professionally terminate the relationship, not write elementary-school letters to customers.

well said bull. no reason to be unprofessional. i just had a talk with someone here on friday about how i have become the unsolited spokesman for sk. i did not ask for the job or want it but when i joined i just picked my name out of the blue as most do. my occupation and the first brand of tools i ever owned came to mind and that is how it happened. i don't like to be attacked as i have been sometimes, but that is ok. i take it with a grain of salt. i don't mind helping anyone i can and sometimes sticking up for sk by correcting false information. i have concerns about them and their future but people who trash them and their reputation don't help them either. best of luck with your repair michael murder. i hope you get it straightened out.

i have very few sk tools. The sk spline socket set i bought, like i said earlier the sockets are great and good quailty control. In the same set the ratchet was DOA with piss poor chrome on handle. Also the chrome on the extension is messed up cosmetic only though. I can just see how someone who runs a small business would be upset if a big corp turns there back on them. I have worked for small businesses before and have seen how devastating it can be to lose manufacturer support.
