SK-Wayne 12 PC. Set

OK, so I recently stumbled upon on of these at a fleamarket:




It's a 12 piece set of tools by SK-Wayne:
4 pc. - 3/8in drive 6 pt. std. sockets: 3/8 (missing), 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 (missing)
4 pc. - 3/8in drive 12 pt. std. sockets: 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16 (missing)
1 pc. - 3/8in drive spark plug socket: 13/16 with neoprene insert (missing)
1 pc. - 3/8in drive rachet, 7 1/2in (missing)
2 pc. - 3/8in drive extensions: 1 1/2in and 6in

So, 7 out of 12, not very good. I would like to restore this to a full set and need a little help with the part numbers (advice on obtaining the missing pieces wouldn't hurt either). I need the part numbers for the spark plug socket, and the ratchet. I have the part numbers for all the sockets (assuming they all follow a pattern):

6 pt. - 45112 (missing), 45114, 45116, 45118 (missing)
12 pt. - 45120, 45122, 45124, 45126 (missing)

I'm an SK fan-boy, so I don't want to stop there. I'd like to print out a new advertisement card for the box as well. Does anyone know where I can find a complete image of the advertisement for this set?

Oh, one last thing. The plastic tray is chipped and broken in spots. Any idea if one of those could be found?

Just an observation that your set is not SK-Wayne; it dates later than the Wayne era...

S-K's are good tools.
Shouldn't be too hard filling out your set. Time and patience, scrounging will be needed. Some work but completely do-able.

There are a lot of variations of these sockets. I have many of them. Can you send a close up pic of one of the sockets? Some say SK-Wayne, S-K, S-K Tools, etc. The ratchet is part number 45170, The spark plug socket is part number 4426. I may have all of the tools if you PM me a picture of one socket.

Looking through my S-K stuff, I think the part # for the spark plug socket is 4426 (3/8 inch drive)... but some of those sets came with a spark plug socket in 1/2-in drive, with a 3/8-to-1/2in adapter, which would make it a part # 4826. I have some S-K spares. I agree with the others, your set does not look like typical S-K Wayne sets I have seen.

Hmmm. That box logo looks early Wayne but the liner seems like Dresser-era to me. Maybe someone had a Wayne set and lost pieces and then he or the next guy tried filling the missing pieces in with whatever SK he could find.

As for the sockets:
S-K Wayne's are 1964 thru 1969
S-K (S hyphen K) is Dresser Industries era (1969 thru 1985)
S.K (S dot or circle K) is FACOM era (1985 thru 2005, and after)

Give or take a year or so to account for selling out of old inventory.

I might have a few Wayne's I have duplicates of in SAE if that would help.

Really?! That's very surprising to me; I don't ever recall seeing that. It would have to be a transition set.

Can you post a photo of that insert?

I had a cross over case from that era the "SK tools" emblem was in the old Wayne backgrounds with the gold. Pretty odd

Can't be no later than early 1971, because that's when S-K HQ changed from Chicago to Franklin Park. Very cool set indeed!

I think what you guys are telling me is that I'm not going to be able to find an image online to print off and replace this tattered one..

All good I suppose, as long as it's a little special.

You could easily find an image of a Wayne-era insert that would fit that box or a Dresser-era insert that would fit. But no, you would be lucky to find that exact clean "S-K Wayne Tool Division, Dresser Industries, Inc." insert...

(And if you go for one of the options above, go "S-K Wayne"...)

The 5/8" spark plug socket in 3/8" drive does exist. Do you need one? I have an extra.
