Welcome to the GJ. I think that you might like to check out this thread in the vintage forum. People would probably like to see pictures of your wrenches.

I have SK SuperKrome combination wrenches through 1-1/4" and Craftsman Professional which I believe are the same wrench up to 1-1/2". They're a little on the short side but I'm not a pro wrench and they were what I wanted (quite badly) when I bought them years ago. They aren't the cream of the crop but they get the job done and I know where they were made.

I have a set of metric and sae from the late 90's. Nothing exciting about them. They are usually the last thing I grab to use. I have a new set of ktc combo's that I'm excited to start using

I like my sixties or seventies SK combination wrenches better than my Snapon from the nineties. More comfortable in my hands.

Not sure where my distain for the SnapOn wrenches come from, but I’ll pick out the SK, Wright, or Craftsman before the SnapOn. Maybe the new ones are better, though. Ratchets and sockets, etc, are fine though.

Too the op, I hate being the bearer of bad news and maybe you heard the following, but you are a day late to the party as they say; most of SK is all coming out of mainland China, since they bought the SK company.

But op don't even think about telling your dad as that might kill him, yes indeed I have loved SK starting in the late 1960's up till they lost the company.:cry::cry::cry:

I love SK ratchets, and I don’t like round heads otherwise. There’s just something about SK.

I have modern (ideal era) five sets of SK wrench sets two standard two metric and one set of standard stubbies. One set of metric and SAE and stubbies in my tool box at the house....one metric and one standard in my travel toolbox ( a military GMTK circa the mid 2000's)

i have SK stubby, regular, and long pattern as well as their X frame ratcheting. they were my work truck wrenches and got a lot of use. my only issue with them was the 12 point box end on the small wrenches weren't centered quite right. still had perfect grip but it was not aesthetically great. i have since left that job and use my Snap Ons and Cornwells more at home but those SK's have been through the runner professionally with no issues as a diesel generator technician.

I'll be honest, I have several generations of SK wrenches from their raised panel type to the X Frames, and the only ones I really like are the short kind of deep offset stubby metric boxed end wrench set. I've always found SK combination wrenches to be wide in the hips on the boxed end, and their standard length wrenches to be on the bulky side. I know people love em but, I can't :dunno:

I bought a set of 1/4" to 1-1/4" combination wrenches back in the early 70's, the first 'real' tools I ever bought. I used them extensively working as a machinist and tool maker. I lost a few over the years, and recently bought used singles on ebay to refill the set. I still use them for wrenching.

I’m not a fan of snap on new wrenches like you said the older snap on wrenches are way nicer
