Man, that sound really atypical. That set of wrenches has got to be a floor model or B-stock that somehow got mixed up with A-stock, or else was severely damaged in shipping somehow (?).

I wonder if the whole case or lot of wrenches were defective or B-stock that somehow got released and sold to the distributer.

Looks like a bunch of quality control rejects that are being sold as first line.Sometimes unbelievable good pricing yields unbelievably bad quality.I think "a tool crib" needs to see what his sources are sending out the door with his name on it. When you have stuff drop shipped,it's real hard to be sure your customer is getting what he's supposed to.

When I emailed SK again, I said "Is it possible a batch of rejects had been shipped by accident?" Cant wait for a reply

This seems really shady. Why would you get two bad sets while many of us have had nothing but good luck with Sk? I am thinking that these wrenches were rejects that should have been destroyed but never made it there because some entrepenouring employee decided to sell them, or that these aren't made by SK and they are simply branded that way by some other company.

I am sure SK will be able to deal with this as they have amazing customer service. I emailed on a ratchet rebuild kit and got a response in 5 minutes telling me that it shipped.

Eric, Wow - I'm ashamed, but somehow, this IS going to work out.

I'll put in another FedEx call to have them picked up on Monday, and I'll get with SK directly on a replacement.

Wow, I just can't believe all of this!! I was going to buy 4 sets of SK wrenches, standard and ratcheting for both SAE & Metric. I'm really considering NOT buying them now. I'll have to re-look at MAC or Snap-On.

BMW..... I feel for you buddy!!!!!!!!!!!

What company owns SK right now? Weren't they recently bought out?

That could be a possible reason for what I'm seeing, but I'm not aware of any recent info on this.

Thanks John.

I have a feeling I'm going to keep receiving bad sets until they come from a different source or this "bad run" has been segregated. Are the big sets QA'd differently from the other sets? Or am I the only one that orders these big sets? I guess these are some of questions that need to be answered.

Just visited the SK site myself, and the 86037 is on 3-4 week backorder even through them. That seems to tell me that indeed they are having some quality issues.

As I mentioned, I'm going to contact SK to get Eric the quality that he's expecting from this set of tools. I'm surprised they haven't contacted me via Jim's correspondence.

Like I said, We will get this worked out. Heck something better is bound to happen from all of this.

I've been looking at the SK site for some time and it seems that stuff is always on backorder. I've never ordered from there so I don't know how true the status is. It just doesn't make sense that the maker of the tool (SK) does not have stock, when every other dealer does...unless your stuff comes from somewhere else... :dunno:

Nah, Snap on is the same way, Only they wont tell you its backordered. When I ordered my rebuild kit from them, they said they had over 1000 backorders... Who the hell would have thought a 40 year ratchet rebuild kit would be on backorder? Hot item lol.

If they're on a JIT (Just-in-time) basis, then the backorder makes sense.

I'm a tool distributor for one of the largest wholesaler's out there: Integrated Supply Network, or ISN. Several of the other tool sites out there are using the same supplier (you can tell by the images used and the descriptions of the products which are supplied to us).

ISN has warehouses all over the country, and yours orders have been shipped from the Maryland warehouse. At this point, I'm not really sure what to do other than to be on the horn first thing Monday with ISN. We can try shipping from a different warehouse (in case there's some funny business going on there - i.e. a worker swapping stuff) but my first thought was going right to SK and having them swap it out so they can see the wrenches first hand.

Let me ask you this: did the shipments appear funny in any way? Did they appear to be opened or packed poorly?

No, the shipments appeared fine. Both boxes were packed exactly the same: A larger outer box, with the smaller inner box containing the wrenches and the roll. The smaller box was sealed using that brown security tape. The packing material was that air bag stuff. I guess the only thing I would call questionable was the fact that the air bag stuff didn't really cushion it on the top/bottom, but only on the sides.

Just so everyone is up-to-date, I'm sending a third set to Eric, one that has been personally inspected by the warehouse manager in Baltimore. These will arrive on Tuesday.

I've also got an e-mail from SK, requesting one of the sets back, and have spoken to my supplier in great lengths, who has never seen anything like this in the 15 years that he's been selling SK Tools.

I'm not sure how we're going to get his set to SK, but where there is a will, there's a way...

Thanks for the follow up. Hopefully, the warehouse manager knows what to look for... we shall see. I'm dying to see what fun stuff I find in the next set.

Seriously, thanks for the follow through. I can't imagine where'd I be without some kind of help.

Monday...no pickup

It's now 7:41 and FedEx has yet to pick up the package. I'm assuming they're not going to pick up it up today.

Yeah, FedEx is like that. Had a similar issue when they were supposed to pick up a MAC ratchet I was having serviced. It will probably be picked up tomorrow...

Eric, no. As I mentioned in my voicemail message to you, FedEx will pick it up on Tuesday, the same day that they will deliver the 3rd set.
