SK Wrenches OR Snapon

hello i want to buy made in the use tools but theres a huge price difference between sk wrench sets and snapon i want good tools. is it worth paying the extra for snap on even if i buy a bit at a time or should i just get made in the use sk. thanks

With Snap-on tools you are paying as much for a service than you are for the tools. It's very hard to justify if you aren't a professional mechanic. Consider Wright, Proto, SK, all are excellent made in use options.

the flank drive snap on are worth the money over regular sk. If you want something not as expensive as snap on, with snap on quality and flank drive made in the USA. Proto.

There both Quality Tools, The SK Wrenches are somewhat shorter in length than the Snap on, If that matters. If you scour Ebay or the Classifieds here you can find some Deals on both.

Wright is another good option, Again Shorter than the Snap on's but with "Wright Grip" if you desire.

If you get the long pattern sets you get close to the length of the snappy's. I have the sk sets in inch and metric both long pattern and like them a lot.

I don't have an SK set but I do have some singles. Love them 100%. Definitely like the long pattern in the SK...to short for me otherwise. I also have a few Supercombos wrenchs....again they are top stuff. I would buy whatever one you get a better deal on!

Hi thanks for the responce my profession is telecommunications but i want to get into small engine repair and work on cars here and there just tiker around. i just will not put a china made tool in my tool box. and i love tools so spending more on made in the usa is worth every penny to me. thanks guys ill check out proto and whilims also

I have some SK wrenches they work FINE. I have NO problems with them and +1 on the better ergos than snapon.

I like the feel of the SK, the snap ons are just to damned thin, they hurt my fingers...

This is part of the difference with snap-on. SO is completly geared towards automotive where thin and long is an advantage to getting into tight places. Making a wrench thin, long, and strong probably requires more exensive material and manufacturing methods. Plus the service of a truck comming to your ship every week which you will not (at least rarely) get unless you are a car mechanic.

Snap-on makes very nice wrenches but they're THIN. Some guys call them "butter knives." You might also check out the new and improved MAC Knuckle Saver wrenches. They're supposed to have a new wider beam; I'm hoping MAC also rounded the beam a little bit more while they were at it.

There's no denying that snap-on are nice, but I also don't care for how they feel, and definately don't like the price. Myself, I'd stick with SK.. good quality, USA, and reasonably priced, but its up to you to choose

I would spend money on flank drive open end combos. I have both flank and regular. And the flank is better with high torque application.

Yes its worth the money difference for used snap on wrenches. Sks are good too but some used flank drive plus' would be the ticket.

+1 for tinkering, spending well over 700 dollars for a full set of metric and SAE or just 350 for metric is allot for a hobby.

Ebay has deals on proto flank drives from time to time. Get them at a 1/3 of the msrp price. You get flank drive and made in the USA. And can find both metric and SAE for under 350.

SO is nice, but SK is just as nice. As someone who has flank drive plus wrenches, I don't think the flank drive plus makes a whole lot of difference. I own a good chunk of SK and use it everyday in a pro setting and they perform every bit as good as SO. If you feel the flank drive plus is a must, look at the wright grip. I have a set at home, yes they have a easy life, but they are very nice. I'm lucky, being a tool *****, I own all three.

I didnt miss that, just kidding around. Our Napa guy has been pushing them hard at the shop all week. We got hats/coffee cups/ a big sign hanging up. If i see anything else with CARLYLE wrote on it i might puke.....

Snappy is great, but the price is hard to justify if you don't use the tools all day, every day. That is where they shine, with constant hard use.

Find some used old Craftsman wrenches or something on craigslist, plenty of Made in USA wrenches out there.

A full set of sae and metric will run you about 180 bucks for the 2 13pc set. They even sell the 26pc on line for 160. Think that set is still USA made.

Just an FYI most of the older outdoor equipment in the US at least is SAE. Even some of the newer stuff.

PS thanks for supporting North American workers...I have a Canadian tool box .

I don't think JH Williams tools are made in the USA anymore. Not sure about the wrenches, but the socket sets listed on Amazon are made in Taiwan.

They are, just not the whole line. If it's a 5 digit part number it's Taiwan otherwise it's USA.

Ok cool, then Snapon is just as good as Craftsman.

No, as I like flank drive, that is why I use my protos more then my craftsman pros. Craftsman pros and the SK are equal. But the craftsman has the price advantage. The snap on is a little better with the flank drive, won't round a stuck fastener when you are trying to break it free.

Proto is as good as the snap on.

I have all snap-on wrenches (non FDP) and i have to say the couple of times i have handled a s&k wrench i have liked the feel of it much better. But service is the reason why i have snap-on and justify it. If/when i buy a second wrench set i will probably go with something cheap/er
