Why is the price of these sets climbing? I want a set and they range from $250.00 and go through the roof. What the heck’s going on here???

Update - As suggested by bixxjs I ordered from https://www.eppys.com/
For $199.00 free shipping and a free tool club membership. Very polite, helpful and happy to process my order. [emoji1303]

I wasn't aware that the metrics were that pricey. I looked at fractionals recently and thought it was a decent price.

Yea, at one point the metric set could be had around 200 to 210 bucks. I have a set. Without adding further value, I wouldn't pay their increased price. The are plenty of other competitors at better prices and even with an offset and on/off switch (Like Proto or Gedore).

As much as I want the set to match. I already have the SAE X - Frames.
Might just go Tekton if the price doesn’t come down to the $200 / $220 area.

In fractional, I got Tekton with offset and reversible for comparable money to the fractional SK. I'm a brand ***** but offset and reversible were both on my list.

Bear in mind that those are fairly complete sets. Depending on what you own, there are probably a lot of sizes you won’t use.

Maybe this is the time to buy 4 or 5 individual wrenches?

They are $270 on sk website and there is a 20% coupon code, which should put them under $220 for you.

My local hardware store has them for $200 for the metric set, which seems better than most online places. I like them and wouldn't mind upgrading my gearwrench set for them. They are handy, but many times, I miss the angled off-set of a standard boxed end of a wrench.

SK thinks they can charge more. The closer their prices get to Snap on, Proto, and other more expensive brands, the less they have going for them. The market is awash with ratcheting wrench options.

It's almost like they're experimenting with how they want to position themselves price-wise. Overall, I'd say they are twice the price of the chinese **** and half the price of the Snap-On stuff...

They're still my goto brand because they are sold in my local hardware store; they're still quality tools; they're half the price of SO and only "a bit more" than made in china stuff.

on edit: I find their quality good, overall, but a week ago, my local store had the SK 5 piece pliers set on sale for 80 bucks. 10" pump plier, 6" pump plier, slip joint plier, needle nose, angled dikes. Was a great deal....got them home and realized the tip of the 10" pump pliers was chipped off...seemed a bad forging, maybe it happened in shipping? Not sure how it made it past QC. Very frustrating so I returned the whole set. I didn't really need them, but wanted a couple of the pliers...and spares of the ones I didn't need would have helped build a spare to-go toolbox. Anyway, SK isn't perfect. Who is? No one.

But yeah, the market seems flooded with ratcheting wrenches for wretches.

Dont be tempted to use your new xframes on brake bleeders. The fluid will wreck the racheting mechanism. I managed to kill two 10mm wrenches before the light in my brain came on as to why.

Does soaking them in A.T.F. not "heal" them?

Brake fluid washes the lube out? Can they be re-lubed?

Ive tried soaking the ratcheting end to bring them back to no avail. My spare 10 mm is still sitting in the box locked up waiting to get returned

Why would you use a uni-directional ratcheting wrench on a brake bleeder? You need to open and close the bleeder quickly, can't do that with a uni-directional ratcheting wrench.

Try soaking it in something like carburetor cleaner, then whaling on it to try to break the ratcheting mechanism free (in the opposite direction of normal force).

If you are using around brake fluid, I would recommend using some El cheapo Chinese ratchet wrenches. That's what I do.
