I don't see why they made them with smaller sizes longer than a larger size. My ocd kicks in when they are on a rack and I think they are not in the correct order because of the length. Than I realize the 7\16 is longer than the 9\16. I guess that's just another reason why I won't be buying them

Yeah... I was hoping the lengths wouldn't all be so close. I really don't need an 8mm that's as long as the 17mm. The distance from the flats of the ratcheting wrench side to the outer edge look very high on the smaller sizes.

The 10mm looks too short.

Wow I just noticed that. Are my eyes deceiving me or are they broaching every size from the exact same blank? The heck is going on?

How did this

Exactly or SK took some manufacturing short cuts. I can't stand that ****, Tekton does it with some of their wrenches too. drives me to insanity.

Wow ... I never really was onboard with all of this x-frame hype from the beginning but that is beyond ridiculous.

Another thing ... ignore the length of 8mm and 9mm wrenches ... why did SK bother to include these sizes in this set while the SAE set is only 3/8" to 3/4"? If they were to build a similar set to their metric set, then the SAE set should have included 5/16" wrench (identical to 8mm) as well.

In my book, a "basic" SAE set would be 7 pieces & ranges from 3/8" to 3/4", and the "basic" metric set would be 10 pieces & ranges from 10mm to 19mm.

I literally don't believe this. Nobody would do this that wants to stay in business. Is this a joke?

Confusing. The metric, that everyone in the World uses, appear to be reverse sized and the American ones not.

Anyone here actually own a set of these wrenches yet?

Yes

:see:

The Metrics are really out in the wild, naked, and unafraid. See attachment, pardon my poor photo skills and the optical distortion of the set picture. All appear to have flawless chrome. I have a few projects this weekend that these will get used on. Will see if the chrome is still flawless come Monday.

I spoke with the folks at NTXtools today and they said they only received a limited number of sets from the initial SK shipment of Metrics. They still had over 400 back-orders for the #80019 sets pending in the queue.

Are the box ends all the same size (OD)? It looks to me as tho they used a single forging and machined down the open end to avoid lobster claw-itus. Is that how they really are? All the same length? The SAE aren't like this, right?

That photo is from an angle that makes it look worse than it is, its only the smallest two that are wrong, they have clearly used a bigger blank for them than they should have, the rest look fine to me.
The sooner they put the box ends into a long flex wrench the better, and they really ought to make one of those HF style 1/4" 3/8" on each end flex ratchets, do it with push through squares to get over the lack of reverse.
I won't be buying these in metric with them sized like they are.

Its an optical trick on your eyes because of the camera angle guys. I will try and get a better shot soon.

The 8mm, 9mm and 10mm wrenches are about 6 5/8 inches long (the same), the 19mm wrench is about 11 inches long and the others in between vary in length. Please do not let the camera optics distortion of the closeup pictures lead you to any knee jerk reactions. I am not a professional photographer. The camera angle optic distortion is plain to see in the attached image as the 8-10mm are the same length but appear different in the image. A Pro would have a DSLR with a lens that would compensate for the distortion.

Houston we have a problem....:wtf:

What is going on with these wrenches?

Maybe they're just not photogenic :dunno:

The 8mm looks huge compared to the 9 and 10mm, the beam on the 14mm looks wider and bigger than the 15mm, they can't really all be the same length can they?

Hey BUBA,

how about measuring the wrenches to see what if any length difference there is between sizes please.

Thanks Buba
That second photos shows them properly, the first was so distorted the box they were in looks square.
It is only the 8mm & 9mm where they have used the 10mm blank that are weird, you can see the open ends are chunkier and the box end has more meat around the hex. This has saved SK from having to make 2 blanks (as their SAE set does not go this small) and saved them from making the ratchet mechanism that bit smaller.
I think I would have just not made the 8 & 9 sizes.

That "X" beam is awful, it added width to the wrenches where narrow matters most. I guess then the fancy low arc might make up for what you lose in the extra width, but I am not interested in having a wider wrench.

They really need to expand the SAE set for industrial users to maximize the strength they posses. We abuse tools, we want something that can take abuse daily. But the sizes we commonly need are 9/16-1 1/4 COMMON, if they went up to 2'' great.

Quick update. I do not miss the old Gearwrench wrenches these replaced at all. I have used them a good deal for auto maintenance since they came in and have zero issues with them (quality or clearance wise). They are a good upgrade to the off shore stuff.

Hopefully Epstein will have some in stock for SK Days this month for those that are still on the fence.

I don't know if they still have them but JBtools had 2 sets of metric yesterday at $230.

So what's the deal with these? Are they available anywhere? I honestly forgot all about them and I was really excited for them. I really just want to buy a single wrench just to try.

A few weeks ago at a big flea market I spent some time talking to an S-K dealer and he told me he had 3 sets still on BACKORDER. I would've liked to see those.

He also had to stop doing warranty on tools unless people are regular customers. Guys were coming to him with buckets of stuff due to the absence of S-K warranty for a while + all the old S-K tools around our area doesn't help I would imagine.

He was a nice guy though. Let me get a picture of his truck because as we know they're like a unicorn. I took his card and promised not to contact him for warranty. :)

I'm not sure why they felt the need to "reinvent the wheel".

My Snap-On wrenches have taken quite a fair bit of abuse (me pushing/pulling/double wrenching on them) and have yet to deform or bend.

eBay has some metric sets. I have a 14mm and a 1/2 sk X frame. Used the 1/2 to tighten back nut of kohler toilet tank. Tank close to wall so the 1.7 degree swing came in handy.
