Can someone please tell me the ODs on the box end of the SK x-frame wrenches? I'm considering buying some, but when looking at pictures it looks like the diameter is much larger than the wrench size.

If no one has measurements could someone compare the ratcheting head to a different ratchet wrench or a standard box end for a size comparison?

The reason I ask is I've run into situations where the large head of a ratchet wrench couldn't get on a bolt due to side clearance.

The X-Frames aren't as bad as you'd think. The visible drive ring is super thin leaving a lot of meat on the beam which gives them the illusion of being much wider than other brands. All I have in X-Frames is a 10mm so heres some measurements for you measuring the thickness of the box end and the width of the box end.

All 10mm

SK X-Frame
8.1mm Thickness
19.95mm Width

Matco 12Pt Spline (Kabo Taiwan)
8.1mm Thickness
21mm Width

Napa Carlyle 6Pt (Kabo Taiwan)
8.1mm Thickness
21.3mm Width

Gearwrench 12Pt (China)
7.7mm Thickness
21.3mm Width

Proto 12Pt Spline (USA)
7.4mm Thickness
21.5mm Width

Tone 12Pt (Hi-Five? Taiwan)
7.3mm Thickness
19.7mm Width

Snap-on 12Pt New Version (USA)
7.5mm Thickness
19mm Width

and just a standard non-ratcheting combo for comparison
7mm Thickness
14.7mm Width

As you can see SK has one of the thinner widths despite what your eyes would tell you. SK and Snap-on are both standouts for back drag and slop as well. I just wish they'd of released more than standard combos over these last 4 or so years. They could of been raking some good cash in with an X-Frame copy of the original Matco double box Pro-Swings. But that would be too original for them I guess, too busy being the hundredth brand on the planet to have a fine tooth pear head ratchet.

Just something to note: The 8, 9 and 10mm use the same base forging, so the 8mm and 9mm are proportionally fatter compared to the other wrenches. This is on both the open and ratcheting ends. The 10mm is fine, but the 8mm is definitely a little chunky.

That's my only beef with the x-frames, other than that I love them.

Page 111 of the PDF catalogue gives head dimensions (in inches). For the 10 mm they’re not exactly as measured by Skin above but pretty close. That catalogue says some of the other sizes also share head dimensions.

Most other competent tool companies supply their own dimensions for comparison.
