Skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, sleds. How do you store yours? I'm ready to start a small side project to organize the growing pile of ski **** in the garage and need some ideas. I've got a bunch of scrap wood and one small corner left in the garage. Ya, I could spend $$ on store bought storage racks but fabricating's more fun

I realize this is resurrecting a decade old thread, but I was really surprised to not see more discussion on ski/snowboard storage. I'm adding to this thread with my recent snowboard storage idea. I found that wall-mounted snowboard display racks fit perfectly above the garage door and look cool as well!

Have a large collection of Atomic ski bags.
Bags tossed in the attic after ski season.
Skis waxed with storage wax and bagged for summer.

Otherwise the bags are in truck 1/2 the skis are in thule the other half are on ski tuning bench. The laundry is kept in equipment bag and then other bags are packed after cleaning.
I travel to ski hills for more than a day my tuning bench and 6 ski holder comes with me. At Okemo -Jackson Gore I setup my tuning bench up in the garage and pick the skis to tune based on what I am racing and conditions.
I have equipment bags that are for carrying coats to the bottom of the race hill they weigh nothing but hold a hell of a lot of clothes or coats.

I no longer take skis with me. I rent skis and boots so I have nothing to store anymore.

I just don't heal as fast or as well as I once did so I don't ski as fast and hard. More "whooshing & shooshing" now, then stop half way down to look at the beautiful scenery.

One of my 85 year old racing buddy's decided this year to stop running downhills and Super-G he said it was too hard on the body to stop at those speeds, but he still likes a fast giant slalom.

I would go nuts in rented boots, it takes a bit of work to get a good fit. At least two or three times with boot fitter. The one thing I did was buy an extra set of liners for the boots. I rotate them and now after 5 years it is time for new boots.

Here's my set up in my garage. Basic steel plate with steel dowels...didn't make it though. Found it online somewhere. It would be a simple welding job. Works great for my wife and I and 2 kids....we are all heavily into alpine, nordic, and backcountry skiing. It's a bit of a mess during the season as we rotate skis out into bags and vehicles almost on a daily basis depending on who is skiing where and with what.

Each slot can hold 2 sets of backcountry skis and 4 or 5 pairs or nordic skis.

Organizing skis can be a PITA. I was walking the aisles of Home Depot and came with a wall rack that will hold 14 pair of skis organized and safely...all for about $20.00

1 2x3
1 1x3 (cut in 3" lengths)
5 3/8x5" lag bolts
28 Deck Screws
Wood Glue
Belt Sander

The part that takes the longest was shaping the 3" 1x3's to be shaped like a ski boot toe lug.
