I always wanted one of the 6 1/2 worm drives so I was pumped when I found one at a local pawn for $35. After realizing it rattled bad cause some goober didn't knock out the arbor diamond I bought it brought it home disassembled cleaned replaced the chord and painted a few odd parts with epoxy black. So here's the issue. It was full of grease not oil,so I kerosened it out replaced with skil lube.it has a new diablo blade . I noticed the blade seemed to wobble and there is a rattle sound it goes away if I pull the blade. There is no play at all in the shaft. There is enough slack in the gears that the tip of the blade has 1/4" before it turns the motor its self. I looked in at the new oil and it's got brass in it . Dust but no flakes. Any ideas . Is the rattle the worm drive? Is the shaft bent? Help guys.

A good bet would be that the grease that was in there didn't do a good job of lubricating the worm gear set and it is eating it's self up. I would guess a new gear set and some fresh oil would solve the problem. Would not hurt to replace the bearings in there while you have it apart also.

If you have a 1/4" of play before the motor begins to turn, your worm gear is likely shot. They are actually pretty easy to replace and don't cost too much.

Skil part no. 1619X02374 should be the replacement gear set and is approximately $37.00. It is more than you paid for the saw, but still, if the rest of the saw is in good condition, its worth replacing.

Well it says that's part is in available. Would a skill 77 worm gear fit the 367? It's a type 7 I believe

Well the gears were so bad the edges were thin enough the fold over with my finger. So the search is on for gears now
