Skil 77, what is the difference in type number?

I recently purchased a few older Skil 77 worm drive saws. I noticed that there is a type number on each that is different. I have a type 14 and 15. The 14 has a metal handle that is attached to the motor housing, while the 15 has a plastic handle that is screwed on. I took both apart to repair and noticed little difference between the two. Luckily my local hardware store is an older mom and pop and they still have parts for older power tools so I was able to find the few parts I needed (motor brushes, trigger switch, and other small screws and bolts). I'm pretty sure that the older models are not compatible with the newer ones like the 16 or 17, and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the older models.
