I have a line on a skil 77 wormdrive for 40 bucks. It has the case, and looks a bit newer. Says it runs powerful and has a new diablo blade. Good price? Anything specific to look for? Its on southern illinois craigslist, my link skills are lacking tonight.

If you have a use for a wormdrive, then go for it. Without seeing it's condition, I'm going to guess that that would be a good price. But if it's been abused or used to cut masonry (stone can screw with the arbor alignment and bearings) then I would pass.

good price...

put a heavier gauge cord on it so the armature will live, I had a 100' 10ga cord on my Milwaukee and never had a problem, my framing partner had 5 Skill 77s 1 or 2 were always in the shop being repaired

and my Milwaukee will run a cut down 9" blade for cutting stacks of 1 1/8" stair treads

no guard......doing piecework :rocker:

If it's in good shape, that's a steal. If new enough, you can probably order replacement parts or maybe find them online. Flush the oil in the gearbox a couple of times and replace as many gaskets as you can. Milwaukee says to use kerosene, I guess for cutting the organics in the sludge. No matter what you cut with it, get the best blades you can afford. I like Diablo.

I plan on using it for ripping plywood mostly. I have no problem rebuilding it like ive seen a few others do.

Home Depot stocks the Skil worm drive lube. While you're there, pick up the Diablo 24 tooth blade; you won't believe how smooth of a cut it leaves.
