My 35x45x5" was $11,500
This has a 12" raised edge around the perimeter and on inside for a wall
Looks like about $7.30/sf for the concrete

I did insulation and tubes which added $1500 plus my labor

Last one we had done was $140 a yard and about that in labor.

20x20x4 would be roughly $1800-2000

That was with us doing the dirt work and forms.

That's a big number. I'd expect it to be half that.

Do the prep yourself and hire a finishing contractor to place and finish it. Around here, finishers are busy and don't want to bother with the set up. Unlike the placement, you can take as much time as you need to do the prep and it's not that difficult.

When it comes to place and finish, the cost per sf increases significantly as the size deceases. Around here a 10,000 sf slab would cost about a buck per sf but a 20x20 would be closer to $5 sf. In any case, that's only a couple grand. Add all the materials. and you'll be a hell of a lot less than $14k

Check out my Guide to Floor Slabs in the link below for some thoughts on what's involved.

^ I think i'm going to do just that. Heck I might even go rent a bobcat from home depot for the dirt work. I'm going to break it up into 2 sections that I can pour one at a time.

I'd do some Googling around before going right to Home Depot. I've found rental places around me that are closed on the weekend because they cater mostly to contractors. So you can pickup on Friday afternoon and return on Monday.
I also found a small local place on FaceBook that just rents dirt moving equipment and it's cheap - $150/day for a mini-excavator. So def look around!

Home Depot can tend to be a bit more expensive, but they include the trailer. A lot of other places I've seen will charge extra for drop off and pickup. Not everyone, but lots do. Just make sure you've (he) has all the costs accounted for.

This exactly. Sunbelt rentals per day was cheaper (and they arent open sunday) , But no trailer, They can deliver and pickup for $150 each way tho. Im still looking for someone with their own machine to do the excavating job for me , If I can find a guy I think will show up I dont mind paying for that even if its a few hundred over what I could rent for.

Kijiji and FB Marketplace is full of guys who went and bought $35k Kubota compact loader/backhoes and then realized they don't have much use for them other than cutting the grass and are willing to rent out the machine/their time. Just make sure they're insured and experienced - especially if you're paying them per hour. A skilled operator can do the same work in a 1/4 of the time as a newbie
