is it advisable to use foil face insulation on the perimeter around the slab? Has anyone come up with a good way to cover the perimeter foam? thanks

I guess you could use the foil face. I haven't personally seen it done. But certainly seems reasonable. Most foam is covered by a screening similar to a masonry wall. Then a product called Insulcrete applied and a broom finish. So it resembles a concrete wall with a broom finish. Depending on how much is actually exposed. You could also cover it in an aluminum flashing.

I saw a reference online that showed a thin (maybe 1/4") "protection board" to cover the exposed foam board. Not sure what kind of material it was. Any thoughts on what it might be? I am not real excited about the stuckle-type coatings as they seem prone to chip away over time.
