Slat wall or OSB?

So years ago I picked up several sheets of 4x10 slatwall of FB marketplace.

Some of it was damaged, some of it got wet, all of it warped quickly as it's MDF. I hung half a sheet and saved another 4 sheets, enough to do a wall in the basement. Never found a good source for hardware and frankly not 100% sold on the strength to really hang anything.

Looking at it now and I can't tell if the sheets are swelled (they're certainly warped) and knowing how heavy they are I'm thinking to myself do I just write these off and go buy a couple sheets of 5/8 OSB and call it good?

As I'm typing this I'm also realizing the slats are a great place for dust (and sparks) to potentially collect...

I looked at something like slatwall at L a few years ago. The panels were kind of expensive but what really killed it for me was the cost of the hangers. And you are forced to use whatever configuration matches the panels. I could see me wanting to hang something and need yet another style hanger that I didn't have handy. I did go w/ osb which was a bit of a mistake looks wise but all I need are a few different length wood screws and I can hang nearly anything. And I always have a selection of screws anyway. 95% of my stuff is on screws directly and just a few on some type of hanger attached w/ 1" screws. I will say that one advantage of raw osb is that, if I want to move a screw, the unused hole is barely noticeable.

For anything with any weight, the only good slat wall is the kind with the metal reinforced t-tracks. And the best way to get it is when you salvage it from a retail store and they give you all the hooks. Otherwise it’s extremely expensive to buy new.

Thanks all.

I'm going to throw the 3 full sheets up on FB for $50 and grab a couple sheets of OSB or plywood next time I'm in town.

Need to get this buttoned up so I can put the stovepipe back in the shop
