I have a fairly small garage with cement block walls, and I'm trying to figure out how I can set it up for flexible storage.
I need shelving and some tool hangers for yard tools and some similarly bulky items like wheel ramps. I was hoping there would be a slatwall option for using inexpensive bulk wire shelving, but this just isn't the case - shelving tends to be either too narrow for me (Versatrack) or exorbitantly expensive (Gladiator.)
I was thinking that Rubbermaid FastTrack would be closest to ideal - I could run rails all the way around the garage, hang vertical shelving standards wherever I want shelving, and still use their rail accessories wherever the shelving... isn't. The thing is, I'd like to have some more flexibility for storing items further down the wall (especially underneath the shelves, which is prime real estate as far as I'm concerned.) While they have a few accessories that can attach to the standards, they really didn't intend for much to be able to sit directly under their shelves.
Now, Rubbermaid has some marketing materials where they show the FastTrack rail sitting on top of their "FastTrack Wall" slatwall panels (which are, despite their name, incompatible with FastTrack Rail accessories.) A few of those even show the vertical standard running down the slatwall, which normally sits flat against the wall. I can only assume that they either mounted the rail directly on and through the slatwall, or they have a hidden furring strip offsetting the rail by the depth of the slatwall panels.
Has anyone done something like this before? Or is there a better option I should be considering?
