Slatwall

Hello All!

I am a designer working on a space that already has existing slat wall. The new owners did not put it in and they do not know the company that provided and/or installed the slat wall and they want to keep it. But what they actually need it for is too heavy for it at the moment. I know that metal inserts can be added to provide additional support. I have tried to search on my own but it is proving to be fruitless. Do any of you know what can be done to make a n existing slat wall stronger or if there are universal metal inserts that will fit any brand? Also preferably without taking the walls down and basically starting over?

Surprisingly Menard's carries slatwall that can be ordered in any color and also with the metal between the slats. I remember seeing a note that the metal needs installed at the factory because the slats are different sizes I believe. They do offer color inserts that slid in the slats for a different look but not for strenght.

You can't add the metal reinforcements to existing slatwall, the slots are machined oversize for the inserts and then end result is the ID of the insert is the same as the machined slot you have now.

I don't know what they want to use it for....but I have some shelves with "outriggers" for my slatwall. I keep the roof and windows for the RT on these shelves. They will hold a lot of weight.

Before swapping out the slatwall or trying to outfit it with inserts (which I don't think is possible)...check with a firm like Gershell Brothers in Philly. They are a retail store supply shop that has any number of shelves, hooks, baskets...you name it...for slatwall. Their prices are far more reasonable than the specialty stuff like Gladiator because they sell to people outfitting retail stores. Plus, what they sell is the standardized slatwall accessories...not some brand specific items.
