I thought about that but that stuff is made out of MDF and I want to put it all the way to the floor, the moisture would kill it.

Linens and Things and Circuit City are out of business,,,Go to one of their fixture sales and buy some slatwalls. Linen & Things have some real nice ones with metal inserts and they are very large sheets.

New here, lurking.

I looked into the slat board for my garage and it works great but there is a BIG caveat. That stuff comes in a cheaper version 9most common) and a better version ($$). The better version has an extruded, thin guage aluminum sort of "liner" in each slat that spreads the load if you happen to hang something heavy on it. The cheaper stuff doesn't have that and so if you put something a little too heavy? Yup, it is only MDF so a big chunk rips out. Looks like azz after that and I guess most of us here are fairly **** or we wouldn't be taking pictures of how we organize our garages. I'll shut up now.

I got the "cheaper" stuff at Home Depot when I did the renovation in my attached garage.

I had one of the hooks get caught on the garage door and it bent the heck out of the hook but the MDF Slatwall was fine. I also had the garage door catch on one of the baskets I have near the door to hold car washing stuff and it did break a little piece, so I moved the basket over just a bit to a good area. Incidentally, the piece did not come off...it's kind of hinged by the laminate.

At HD, it was about $40 for a 4x8.

I do not hang hundreds of pounds from each hook or basket, but it seems to be more than strong enough for what I am doing. Plus, in this smaller garage, has given me the ability to move things around, even wall hangings to better organize. We have a local retail store called Gershell Brothers that sells all kinds of hooks, baskets, shelves...etc

It is pretty rare for even MDF slat wall to let go you have to screw up royally for it to let go. 30-40lbs on a hook is fine you need to use good quality hooks no cheap over the counter stuff get the real deal from a fixtures suppler.

I looked at the information on the Sears link. I am not familiar with the brand, however I think it is the same product that was formerly distributed by Knape & Vogt. If it is, you would find it to be a very thin extruded plastic product. It pales in comparison to Gladiator or stock MDF slatwall.

Matt is correct. Yes, you can break out MDF slatwall if you use it in an incorrect application. You can even hang wooden cabinets from it if you use the correct hanger bracket. As far as moisture is concerned, just leave it up an inch or from the floor and you will be okay. I've had it floor to ceiling in my garage for 20 years with no problem.

Every Menards store stocks white melamine slatwall and accessories. You can order custom slatwall, including metal inserts, from them and receive it in two weeks. Some Lowes and HD stores carry it, but you cannot place custom orders.

Store liquidation fixture sales. Get best quality stuff for a few cents on the dollar. I purchased slatwall, pallet racks, hand trucks, shelf standards, rolling bins, ladders and all kinds of useful stuff at a box store liquidation.
