I've been doing a bit of searching and have yet to find something that is even has a warranty. What is everyone using for plastic coated/lined sockets for wheels?

Most don't have a warranty since the socket is designed so thin to accommodate the sleeve. If you really need a warranty your best bet will be something rebadged off the tool truck but you'd just be paying up front for the same cash that 3-4 sets would cost anyway.

Thanks guys - that gives me a bit of options :)

Unfortunately the best option for warranty is Home Depot and they don't sell them online or in store... Those Pittsburgh sockets look to be the best complete set, but more than I was after.

I'd buy those HD sockets in a heartbeat but...

I saw this set at the Home Depot in West Seneca , N.Y. near Buffalo for $ 16.99. It's a 3 piece set 17 mm , 19 mm & 21 mm. It's pretty much all you really need. They had a few of them on the shelf. I grabbed one for me as I couldn't find my set I got at Princess Auto. I sold off half of my tool boxes to buy a 72" box and my tools are in buckets and boxes all over the garage right now.

The one thing Apex says is their outer covering spins separately from the socket; that probably reduces wear to the cover.

Anybody ever seen a 19mm x 21mm flip socket that is sleeved? Those are the only two sizes I really see.

Maybe this is a stupid question but is the key attribute here that the socket is slightly thinner walled and can fit in on certain wheels? or there is that protective sleeve?

Didn't feel like starting a new thread since the topic has plenty of threads, but I'm curious what kinda life people are getting out of their sleeved sockets? I destroyed my Gearwrench socket in about 4 months, used everyday between my Mid torque and High torque. Nice socket and 4 months isn't bad I suppose. I think they claim they'll warranty them but I gotta find the box and double check.

I picked up a GP since I'd need one by Monday and amazon could have it delivered today. Looks nice, but its shorter which I don't like, drive end has no chamfer, and the gearwrench had a nice ring around the drive end while the GP is just flat.

Impact sockets are wear items.
Save the thin-walls for wheels that demand them.
Use the regulars for much longer than 4 months.
Mess with warranty less.

I was thinking you could get some cheap chrome sockets, put some heat shrink tubing over them, and be in business for a while, but those Husky and HF purpose-built ones are too cheap to bother.

Im aware they're wear items, that's why I'd like to find out how long people are getting out of theirs so Im not wearing (breaking) mine as often. 4 months seemed decent but if theres something that'll last 6 months or a year I'd happily upgrade.

Pretty much every wheel I work on requires a sleeved socket, not my place to be scratching people's wheels, and a lot of the AMG wheels are worth quite a lot. I did wrap electrical tape around my 17mm to finish up the last two cars I worked on friday and figure that might work ok, but idk. Nice to have the right tool. Well see how long this GP lasts I suppose

All those anti Burst sockets including the facom ones are all rebranded toptul, they are rated for 500nm of torque usually.

But you can't go wrong with any of the anti burst branded ones as they all offer the lifetime warranty and will last a long time.

Blue point from Snap on also do this set. (ITC7316A)

plenty more rebrands like gearwrench, OEM tools i think, and loads more names not worth mentioning.
