Slide Hammer ID

Please ignore the fact I have the puller on backwards, it won’t fit in my drawer unless I flip it around. Can anyone help me put an ID on this one? I got it from my wife’s grandfather’s shop. It looks like it spent most of its life with the slide at the base stored in the drawer. It feels like quality workmanship, especially compared to the Chinese HF specials I’ve handled until now, but it has literally zero identifying marks on it that I can find. Her grandpa seemed partial to Craftsman and affiliated Sears brands, then Proto and Challenger products, then a smattering of Thorson and Wright tools mixed in the pile. I’m hoping to find the crows foot bolt type pullers next time I’m in the barn. Thanks all.

Looks a lot like old Proto. Is the screw Acme thread? That's what Proto has used for forcing screws for many years. You're missing the cone which tightens the legs.

It’s on there it’s just flipped over.

It appears to be acme thread on a quick walk out to the garage.

It looks identical to the one I ordered from Sears and Roebuck back in 1972.
I was in the USAF at the time, stationed in Japan and ordered most of my tools from Sears and Roebuck as they did not charge extra for overseas shipment. I needed it to pull a bent rear axle shaft on my Toyota.

Mine is a standard 5/8 thread not acme. I still get a lot of use out of it, mostly with the vise grips which I fitted to it.

More than likely made by OTC, I will show the pictures to a few guys that used to work there to see if they can identify it.

Yeah if they’re not the same thing they’re from the same plant. I just can’t figure out why there are absolutely no markings on them anywhere at all. Her grandfather worked at the Goodyear plant and farmed his whole life, and I’m starting to see that he might have liberated some of his stuff from the plant when the opportunity presented itself.

This is the one I ordered from Sears back in 1972 along with a lot of the attachments that either came with it or I made myself. I have gotten a lot of use out of this thing in the last 48 years. It sure looks like the others.

Mine is labeled New Britain and I bought it at NAPA when I worked there in the Seventies, not sure who made them but they were private labeled for lots of people.
