I have manual slide hammer, like this one. The weight comes off of it. It's 7 pounds. Used it to pull rear wheel hub off, 20-year-old rust belt car. It was likely the first time it ever came out since it was manufactured, and took MANY whacks. Was thinking about possibly getting a larger weight or hammer to slide back and forth to make the job easier on the other side. It appears to not be too common to be able to just buy the weight. Anyone know where I can just get a heavier weight?

I have a 5 lb and would like to buy a 10 lb. Too many tries with 5 lbs to pull a hub.

OP, are you sure that's a 7 lb weight? It sure doesn't look like it. I mean, just the weight itself. The part that you slide. it looks more like 3 lbs.

If that's a 5/8 rod and a 7 lb weight, then you're already over the standard 5 lb hammer weight. OTC makes a 10 lbs weight and rod kit without any attachments. And it's stupid expensive for what it is. For very occasional use, you'd could buy some cast iron plates from a non-olympic weight-lifting set at Walmart or on FB.

If you want to be fancy

You're probably just get tired quicker the heavier the weight. I have a heavy one I inherited and most guys switch the lighter one after a couple minutes.

I have one around 10lbs. I never actually weighed it. It looks homemade. IMG_5194.jpeg

I have one I made from dumpster diving at a job I once had. The weight was from a machine that compressed asphalt for testing purposes. Not sure what it weighs, probably 10 lbs or more.
Edit; not as much as I thought. 3,652 grams... Or 8 lbs.IMG_20250729_195205244.jpgIMG_20250729_195327995.jpg

Guys in the lab used to make their own using a piston pin from an 817 cu in Diesel and a chunk of steel rod.

I have always wanted one of those 10 lb OTC slide hammers, though.
