I think I have the Performance Tool 5 lb 5/8-18 thread version (was packaged with 2/3 jaw puller; other versions have the axle flange tool with them.

I am looking at the otc 9 piece set on amazon. has a good number of attachments and great reviews. this is the one I am ordering based on the reviews and the fact that my other otc tools have been great.

Autozone-O'Reillys since you probably won't use it often. Free tool rental, just pay the deposit and when you return it, money is given back.

The original OTC USA was top notch but they are manufacturing in china now and there has been some reports on this forum of a drop in quality. It may be worth while looking in the used market.

I always look at my tool purchases over the term of use I have for them. I figure I have 10 more years of swinging wrenches so over that time period how beneficial will it be to have xyz tool on hand for me. This buying formula allows me to justify buying more tools.

I have an OTC one. Works fine.

They aren't terribly expensive and are one of those tools you'll use twice a year, but it'll save your ***. Buy a box of 5/8 fine thread nuts too, so you can weld them onto **** if you have to.

I bought the OTC kit when I was a tech and loved it, I put anti seize on my threads and made sure the adapter was always real tight to avoid pulling threads.

I like the snap on ones because they use the same 3/4" thread as most pullers that use a forcing screw. The adapters to 5/8" are easy to make or come by on eBay. I paid less for my snap on setup that I pieced together used than I was able to buy a silver ******* for new. I've never been impressed with OTCs warranty in the past either, and now that their slide hammers are Chinese, I'm not really comfortable with expecting a lifetime without breakage, at least not when I can get snap on for a similar price. I'd sooner buy from HF at that point since they have good customer service.

Great idea.

My OTC kit also came with the Vice-Grip adjustment screw attachment, so I can use the puller with the large-frame Vice-Grips. That has come in handy a few times. You can buy this adapter separately.

I have an Evercraft set from Napa that works fine.

I don't use it all that often, but when I need it, not much else will suffice.

I totally have to agree... I picked up a the 12 lbs snap on auto body slide hammer kit on CL for 150 in brand new conditions and just welded up a few 3/4 to 5/8 adapters

they'll pull hubs like a loose front tooth Esspecially when used with a OTC style HD hub puller
