I built some open shelving out of 2x4 year ago and I'm tired of looking at all the things on the shelves. I want to install sliding doors and trying to figure out what material to use. I don't have the tools or skills to build panels with rails styles and inserts.

I was thinking about getting some sliding door hardware(tracks and rollers ) and hanging some painted doors. The doors would be cut from a 4x8 sheet with each sliding door being 2x4 ft.

My options are: (4x8 sheet)

3/4 inch Particle board $16
11/32 inch Plywood $14
15/32 inch Plywood $18

Thanks for you input.

I'll post pics when complete, probably not until after Christmas.

If you want the rail & stile look, its pretty easy. Make the case, and all the rails & stiles from 2x4 material, screw to the surface of one of your 4x8 sheets, 3/8 = 11/32 is fine. Then get quarter-round trim x 3/4" and "case" all of the openings with that, trim nails + glue. Stain, paint, etc. I think the AC plywood has one good sanded side if I recall the letter codes right. But it will be more expensive than CDX.
