Good afternoon,
I am getting ready to start my project in the next couple of months and will share when I get started. I am debating adding a 8x7 single sliding door on the side of my building to use without having to open the 16x13 overhead door. I am thinking this would also be a good way to get some air in over the summer. The only experience I have had with sliding doors is from a 60 year old building so its dated at best. Have they improved these doors over the years or do they still create a lot of gap when closed. It can get cold up in Northern Il so i would like it a sealed up as possible in the winter. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

I'm doing a residence. The cost of these doors, and the quality, varies dramatically. Although they are not known to be great at "sealing" - I'm not sure that's true when compared to french door design - or something similar.

We went with an 8x8 door sold by Marvin.

I should note - as we didn't plan for it - our doors have a substantial "threshold" and typical install sinks them into concrete (or into a sub-floor). Otherwise you've got something to step over. I'm told that you can order a door with a low threshold (perhaps "handicapped access") - but I didn't look into that option.

The Marvin 8x8 is heavy.. 2-3 people to manage it.
