Sliding gate opener help needed.

My house has an existing sliding gate that separates the private drive from the back area where my shop is. It works fine but I want to add an opener with remote control to it. For simplicity I also would prefer a chain-type drive unit so that it cannot be manually opened easily once it is closed. I can weld and fabricate metal parts in my shop so any required brackets will be easy. I also would prefer a unit that was intended for this purpose vs. building a frankenopener from an overhead unit.

I know nothing about sliding gate openers but I have installed maybe 8-10 overhead door openers so I have some experience with them.

Any advice on installing one or brand names you would recommend (or stay away from)?

Thanks!

I have installed several openers, sliders are more robust than leaf (swing) type.
I would recommend the Apollo slider for your residential application. They operate on 12VDC and can either run power to the onboard charging system (I recommend this) or solar to keep the battery charged.

Are you planning on building a new gate or keeping the chain link? The "V" track will need to be level for a smooth and reliable operation.

I had the same situation for our citrus ranch gate, and ended up using a garage door opener, with a few modifications.
