Sliding side garage door

Hi,
Hoping to get some help identifying this door and hopefully fixing it.

When I bought the house the sliding side door had a hasp and a padlock on it, the original latch was in place but didn't work. I'd like to fix the latch but am having a hard time finding any information on it.

I have thought about replacing it with a normal swinging door but I like how this stays out of the way when open.

Are you sure that's a latch or is it possible that it's just a handle? Can you post pictures of the edge and inside of the door?

There was a keyed latch that goes into that recess.

The interior picture didn't come out great, I'll get another one when I get back.

It's not visible in the picture but there is hole in the metal track to the left of the shot that accepts the latch.

Actually I just remember I took a couple of (bad) pictures of another door at a house we were working on to try and get an idea of how it works. Problem is mine is missing pieces and I can't locate them.

actually that looks to me like a section of garage door that was made into a man door .

There are a pile of brick ranches around my neighborhood and the surrounding cities. A lot of them with garages that were built back then have doors like this one.
