Sliding trays for inside deep toolbox drawers?

I was going to bend up a tray for some of my deeper toolbox drawers that would give me more storage space and organization at the same time. Without looking at it my plan was to have a 1-2" tray that spanned the width of the drawer, hooking on each side for support. It would only be 1/3 of the (front to back) depth of the drawer so it could be slid to the rear to get stuff out of the bottom. Reality stepped in when I went to get measurements because I realized that the toolbox's drawer slides are mounted to the top of the drawer, which means the tray can't attach there.

Are there any other sliding trays for inside tool cabinet drawers you know about, or ideas on different ways to support the tray?

How about riveting a strip of small aluminum angle and maybe about 1/2") from front to back on each side, down from the top the distance you want....and let the tray slide on it?

What box are you wanting to do this on? Snap on used to make them for their old boxes, just a tray with upside down U shaped ends that slid on the upper drawer edges. The way their boxes were designed at the time allowed for the trays though with the slides on the lower half of the drawer side. There is someone on ebay that makes custom trays to your dimensions IIRC.

Just a heads up, but unless you use some type of protector it puts a good bit of wear and tear on the drawer. From the used boxes I've seen.

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought of adhesive attached rails or a side-to-side slider.
