Slip joint pliers

Which would you spend your hard earned money on?

Snap-on 137ACP for $39.75

OR

Channellock 548 for $15.43 + a case of beer

I wouldn't buy either since I find slip-joints to be next-to-useless. (I have a pair of 1957 Snap-on Vacuum Grip 47s that I only keep because they are 1957 Snap-on Vacuum Grip 47s!).

But if I was in the market for a pair of slip-joints, I'd get the Channellocks. D'uh!

I actually strongly resent Snap-on for having the audacity to charge $39.75 for something another high-quality domestic producer can get to market for less than half that amount. If anyone needs evidence that Snap-on overcharges brutally for their product, here it is...

I have snap on, channellock, mac, and Cman pliers in my drawer
I would put the first three on a level field and some of the Cman are not too far behind

if the jount on the channellocks seem tight, buy them

I have both the snap on's, and channel locks. The snap ons have harder, much sharper teeth, squarer jaws, less play, and grip better than any slip joint plier Ive used. I use them all of the time, and I think its well worth the difference to get the Snap On's.

Predictably, I will take the Snap on's. For the reason of durability. My only beef with Chan-nel-lock (Still love 'em) is their surface. Once the clear coat gets scratched, they start to oxidize rather quickly. Still a great tool though.

I got mine rebadged from Matco.. for only $16.. I don't know why Matco isn't just ramping the price up, but I'm not complaining. I also have the really big 10" pliers, those are great as well.

channellock's are the way to go. why spend the extra cash if you don't have to to get quality? And get a case of Yuengling, about a trillion times better than bud.

Yeah, they have their slip-joint pliers made in Japan; but that don't bother me because unlike the Chinese, the Japanese actually try to make a quality tool.

Oh they do more than try! I defy you to name me a poorly made Japanese product in any market... There might be products you like more, but there's no denying the quality of Japanese production!

I guess the only way this can come out is offensive! I find that statement to be absolutely and without a doubt the biggest crock of SH*T I do believe I have ever seen anyone on this board post! I have the Snap-on set and another half dozen or so by different manufacturers to boot and really there is not a pinch of **** worth of difference between the Snappys and any other brand by a reputable manufacturer that I own! Geez...... I think I am gonna start printing Snap-On **** wipe and ebaying it for those willing to spend 2 bucks a roll cause it cleans them up nice and it is a bargain at that price! (Sorry dude, I couldn't help myself I just had ta let er fly!)

If I were forced to buy one of these choices, it would be the Channellocks. Quite honestly, though, I probably wouldn't buy either, as I find that style of pliers sort of useless.

I think I've got a pair somewhere, but I know they aren't in a tool box at home or work.

Channellocks are excellent pliers but they'll rust just from the damp air in the garage; you gotta keep them oiled.
