Howdy,
Years ago, my Dad put a clear coating on the floor in the front of his shop. It is very slick. Now my folks are in their 80's and I'm afraid of one of them falling. He stores his plow truck in there and it leaks oil to make it worse yet. He also stores the Lions Club equipment in there and they are in and out quite regular. Step in there with some snow on your shoes and WOW!
How can I prep the old coating for a non slip coating?

Do we know if it is a paint or an epoxy?

It's clear, so I believe it's epoxy.
Sorry I read that to fast. Would not be paint but could be several different things. Here is what I would do. I would get 150 grit sand paper and abrade the surface. A sanding screen would work great, orbital is fine. Then wipe down with a solvent such as xylene. Test the xylene in a small spot first. Then go back over it with our Rust Bullet Clear and request -- no charge-- 1.6# of anti skid.

Mix the anti skid into the clear and roll it on. I would suggest two coats. No antiskid in the first.
