Slow down the Genie opener

I recently got a free Genie Excelerator Garage door opener. The thing really does whip the door open fast. I had some garage door guys tell me that it is excessive and in the long run will cause premature where of other components.

Apparently there is or used to be a marking on the PCB board for speed control. Cutting a wire or de-soldering a resistor would slow it down.

I cannot find any labeling on my board but have included some pictures. Maybe someone with more knowledge of electronics can help? Perhaps someone has this opener and has done it? Model is hard to read on the bar code but it is 4062.IMG09.jpgIMG13.jpgIMG20.jpgIMG30.jpgIMG45.jpg

My Genie door operator is kind of slow through it's cycle, but that's ok, because I never park in the garage.

Try contacting Genie. I do not have your model opener but they have done well supporting a few issues for me.

I had a 2 DC drive Overhead Door (Genie) fast opening screw drive "Accelerator" openers on my 18 ft main and 8 ft secondary doors, installed 18 years ago.

They were very fast. The one on the large door started acting up just recently and I replaced it. The other is fine and neither door or their tracks have issues. I could understand the theory that a fast opener would wear out a door, but I wouldn't say it inevitable or even all that common.

Once you have fast openers, a normal one is excruciatingly slow.

At least in the online PDF copy of the manual.

I looked it up before I posted my previous thread.
What finn said... unless their link is to the wrong manual?

Interesting. I just figured the stress on the spring and motor might be more. But 18 years...I can live with that. LOL

Mine is 24 years old now on a 16' door and still works like new. I replaced the rollers and installed green hinges a couple of years ago to seal things up better but that's the only maintenance the insulated door has needed. My only complaint is that with metal siding and a metal roof, the range for the remote is poor. I definitely wouldn't want it any slower with the short range.
