So after many years of lurking, after my divorce, I was finally able to purchase a house with a garage. Not my ideal set up, but it was priced 30% below market and the inside of the house was already updated with new kitchen, bathrooms, living room and dining room.

Today, I decided to start updating the garage into a workshop/garage since it is snowing heavy outside. I have started by cleaning it out. Next will be insulation, drywall, electrical outlets (none installed at the moment) and lighting (one miserable incandescent bulb installed at the moment).

Here are the before pics. Trying to get ideas how I expand. Back 20 - 25 feet? To the side 6 feet?

The boxes of empties is part of the garage fund :)

Yep. Wider and deeper. The bigger the better. Or at least a 6' closed in lean-to on the side for storage and deeper to work in.

Looks like a lot of stuff! Run the electrical, insulate, sheet, then build some storage for all that stuff. I think a shed would be good for all that lawn gear and snow blower.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I do have a nice size shed for all of the
lawn stuff however it's at the back of the lot. The snow blower is in
there because of the storm that just passed. The only other lawn equipment
is a rake. The stove was purchased by my girlfriend and I have not been
able to get some help to carry it over the center island in the kitchen.
I did see the rolls of R13 insulation at Home Depot for 6.83 a roll. 32 ft
long. 10 rolls should take care of the walls. The roof is 24 on center
and will require about 10 of the 24 wide rolls. So it won't be as expensive.
Does anyone know what code is for drywall thickness here in CT?
I am hoping to have insulation and drywall done by the end of January.
